From your question about whether a tac could be scrambled, I inferred you might think all planes on a CV could scramble. (This was the rule for the original version of PTV, but it gave Japan an overwhelming advantage early in the game.)

With 4 dice @ 4 and 1 die @ 3 (total = 19), the Axis could expect to get 3.17 hits the first round. So Axis defense pretty much met expectation.
The killer was with 1 die @ 4, 4 @ 3, 4 @ 2 (total = 24, the UK was expected to get only 4 hits but got 7!
By all rights, there should have been a second round with the Axis rolling 2 @ 4 for another expected 1.33 hits. (I was expecting 4, perhaps 5 hits on UK attackers.) So the Royal Navy and Air Force really shined.
