Can a damaged carrier keep attacking in round 2 of the sea battle in an amphibious assault?

The carrier took a hit in the 1st round of sea battle because it had no planes on it.

Can it roll for an attack on round 2?

well, it doesn’t have an attack value, so it can’t attack. It can stay in the battle and soak up another hit though

Does the rules actually say what happens to a major that is bombed out so bad that downgrading will automatically destroy it due to having more damage than what a minor can hold or are we just applying logic here? Because if that’s the case, you might want to welcome the enemy to bomb your factory if you’re going to lose it.

How do you blow up stranded bombers? doesn’t it make perfect sense that the lone landed bomber defending at 1 should be strafed apart by attacking planes? Except for integrating interceptions into SBR, there is no defined “air combat” air units function largely just like land units except with different move restrictions.

That would be very true to the difficulty of playing allies: Giving up London or Egypt is the dilemma, what will the allies choose… I don’t know what’s best but I think both strategies can work.

Much depends on what happened UK1 and IT1 of course, so lets assume ‘Taranto’ happened (a rather standard move, especially with an allied bid). Without aid of the German luftwaffe (they will be massing against London), Italy cannot safely approach Egypt. Thats 1.

2: After Taranto and Germany pushing through for SL, London is very likely to fall but it is also very likely that it will be a pyrrhic victory for Germany. Russia will be a monster and the USA just needs to destroy the kriegsmarine.

If ‘Taranto’ did not happen UK1 I guess the situation does not change a lot if Uk2 still goes for it and stop Italy in the med… But in this case Uk2 also has the option to superdefend London, indeed possibly giving up Egypt in the long run (but only for a short amount of time if London survives).

I’ll not talk about the the possibility of the USA liberating London, as that also depends on what Japan is doing (and thus, how much investments the USA must make to prevent a pacific sudden death) but the USA should definately have enough ground and naval forces left to prevent Italy from breaking through.

Italy’s job is threefold:
1: Keep the UK spending to crush Italy
2: Assist in Russia
3: Lure the US Fleet past Gib and into the Med

With that being said, the Italian Navy is important to protect, requiring a DD to be purchased in Round 1. This will draw more UK attention to the Med, which gives Germany more breathing room to advance on Moscow. Provided your fleet was not decimated in SZ97, ferry units into Yugo with the TT and at least 1 Armor, possibly 2.

Assisting with Russia being your second goal pretty much requires that Italy activates Bulgaria on Round 1 and Italy either reinforcing the German Flank in Romania on I2 or if there is no immediate threat, clearing out Greece before the Brits activate it. If Italy purchases a Bomber on Round 2, it puts 2 Bombers and somewhere in the range of 6-8 Inf plus 2 Armor in range of Eastern Poland, or Bess. You even have a shot to can open Western Ukraine at this point, or if Russia is really incompetent, Ukraine MAY be open via an Armor Blitz (provided 2 Armor went into Yugo on Round 1, and reinforced Romania on I2.) In any case, Italy can stand to gain some IPC and really create problems on the German Southern Flank in Russia.

As for the last goal for Italy, you need to continue to engage the UK into the Med through the time the US enters the war. Usually this requires naval investments, I prefer to try to get at least 1 DD in every round. At some point you’ll need to redirect your Bombers back to Rome / Southern France. You’re goal is to force the Allies to defend SZ91 and interrupt the US TT rotation. You need to be very opportunistic here and wait for the Allies to expose TT as lightly defended. This doesn’t always happen, but it is devastating when it does and you can fly 2-3 Bombers and a send a few SS to potentially sink the TT rotation and buy breathing room. If this doesn’t look like it could happen, you just have to turtle up and encourage the US to land on Rome and not Normandy or S.France. The whole goal being to keep the US fleet in the Med and out of reinforcement for multiple turns outside of the 3 units it can place on whatever complex it takes.

Nope. Only if Russia attacks a Japanese controlled territory bordering Mongolia before Japan does the same. That means Manchuria almost specifically, but also addresses if Russia were to attempt to liberate Japanese held Chinese territories adjacent to Mongolia. Note that Japan is free to attack chinese territories occupied by Russian soldiers and that will result in no penalty, as they are chinese (not russia) territories.

There’s absolutely nothing that penalizes either for a state of war between them. It’s better for Japan if the US can’t land bombers in Russia and if the reds don’t reinforce china or india, but there’s NOTHING that prevents Russia from declaring war R1 and freeing movement for themselves (and their allies) on the pac board.

Soviet/Japanese Non Aggression Pact: Due to their mutual border conflct with Japan in 1939, the Soviet Union and Mongolia have a special relationship. If the Japanese attack any Soviet territory that is adjacent to any Mongolian territory, all Mongolian territories (Olgiy, Dzavhan, Tsagaan-Olom, Central Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, and Buyant-Uhaa) that are still neutral are placed under the control of the Soviet Union at the end of the Japanese Combat Move phase, in the same manner as though the Soviet Union had moved land units into a friendly neutral territory. These territories have Soviet control markers placed on them, and their standing army units are placed on the board and are controlled by the Soviet Union player from then on. This occurs regardless of the state of relations between the Soviet Union and Japan at the time of the attack, with one exception: If the Soviet Union attacks any Japanese-controlled territory bordering these Mongolian territories while Mongolia is still neutral, Mongolia will remain neutral and not ally itself with the Soviet Union. In addition, the Mongolian territories will never become pro-Axis unless one or more of them is attacked by the Soviet Union.

Attacking is different from declaring war. Japan and Russia are free to declare war on each other without ever attacking each other at any time, over the entire length of the game.

yeah…we tried it. I think that’s the first move everyone sees when they set up the board. I’ve recently had to bring additional german aircraft to Tobruk or the UK players plasters that army and Italy has nothing in Africa.
