Can a damaged carrier keep attacking in round 2 of the sea battle in an amphibious assault?

The carrier took a hit in the 1st round of sea battle because it had no planes on it.

Can it roll for an attack on round 2?

well, it doesn’t have an attack value, so it can’t attack. It can stay in the battle and soak up another hit though

Hi zbox

If G scrambles, that creates a naval battle. All units must participate in the naval battle. So, can’t bombard. No scramble there is no naval battle, so can bombard.

Note
In a situation with a just a sub or a trprt, those could be ignored, no naval battle and you can bombard.
If you wanted to sink them though, that creates a naval battle and no bombard.

Panther will probably explain it a little more precisely :)

G1: 2 subs, 1 bomber
G2: 8 tanks, 2 mech, bombers
G3: 10 mech, bombers
G4 onwards: some infantry, artillery and bombers (Western Front defence)

Goal: Dark Skies, swarm the Med with Luftwaffe to help Italy, bring 20 fast movers to Russian front before G4 so they can be overpowered. Bomb Russian factories back to stone age.

Most targeted unit: UK ships.

J1: 2 transports, 1 mic in shantung
J2: 3 mech, 1 mic in kiangsu (FIC could be take by UK), 1 carrier
J3: 1 naval base FIC, 2 carriers, 4 fighters
J4 onwards: tanks/mechs 2 chinese MIC + carriers and air

Goal: Conquer China completely and keep it with 2 early factories and steady flow of reinforcements, then invade Russia to reinforce German push. Take the initiative by all out J1 incl. Pearl Harbour, splitting fleet in two groups, then go for either Sydney or India based on Allied play. Get money islands asap to get to same economic level as USA. Start pumping carriers from J2 onwards. Keep India and ANZAC as small as possible to isolate USA.

Most targeted unit: Chinese Infantry.

I1: tank and mech
I2: tanks
I3: transport, troops for Africa
I4: mic in Egypt, troops for Africa

Provide German with mechanized can opening army (first 2 buys), reinforcing the starting 2 mainland tanks. Survive in Africa while German airforce flies in to destroy the British, so they can start their offensive I2 or I3 when UK is weakened and can be defeated. After Germans gave them a kickstart in NO, focus on keeping Egypt and in best case scenario start pushing Middle East/Africa.

Most targeted: weak spots in Russian defence.

Overal Axis focus: Egypt and Yunnan, all other are less important.

Does the rules actually say what happens to a major that is bombed out so bad that downgrading will automatically destroy it due to having more damage than what a minor can hold or are we just applying logic here? Because if that’s the case, you might want to welcome the enemy to bomb your factory if you’re going to lose it.

This is like the basic sea lion but with some minor adjustments. You are doing Southern france. You power slam Yugoslavia.

You can make 71 income potential (if convoys from the french miss) 9 transports and a dd purchase… potential… you can drop 6 units on to scotland in round 2 then pick up 6 more units and drop. Bringing the total drop count to 6+6+18… 30 units. Plus your air. Italy can bomb an airbase if necessary. Italy can land a fighter onto scotland to scramble to defend transports if necessary as well (against the 1 french fighter).

Even if you make 68 only… that is still 28 units + air drop potential. Southern France is nice because if Naval goes to gibraltar you can blast it.

This is an excellent write-up by a seemingly controversial character on these forums. The strategy is sound though.

Nope. Only if Russia attacks a Japanese controlled territory bordering Mongolia before Japan does the same. That means Manchuria almost specifically, but also addresses if Russia were to attempt to liberate Japanese held Chinese territories adjacent to Mongolia. Note that Japan is free to attack chinese territories occupied by Russian soldiers and that will result in no penalty, as they are chinese (not russia) territories.

There’s absolutely nothing that penalizes either for a state of war between them. It’s better for Japan if the US can’t land bombers in Russia and if the reds don’t reinforce china or india, but there’s NOTHING that prevents Russia from declaring war R1 and freeing movement for themselves (and their allies) on the pac board.

Soviet/Japanese Non Aggression Pact: Due to their mutual border conflct with Japan in 1939, the Soviet Union and Mongolia have a special relationship. If the Japanese attack any Soviet territory that is adjacent to any Mongolian territory, all Mongolian territories (Olgiy, Dzavhan, Tsagaan-Olom, Central Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar, and Buyant-Uhaa) that are still neutral are placed under the control of the Soviet Union at the end of the Japanese Combat Move phase, in the same manner as though the Soviet Union had moved land units into a friendly neutral territory. These territories have Soviet control markers placed on them, and their standing army units are placed on the board and are controlled by the Soviet Union player from then on. This occurs regardless of the state of relations between the Soviet Union and Japan at the time of the attack, with one exception: If the Soviet Union attacks any Japanese-controlled territory bordering these Mongolian territories while Mongolia is still neutral, Mongolia will remain neutral and not ally itself with the Soviet Union. In addition, the Mongolian territories will never become pro-Axis unless one or more of them is attacked by the Soviet Union.

Attacking is different from declaring war. Japan and Russia are free to declare war on each other without ever attacking each other at any time, over the entire length of the game.

China can ignore the Neutrality rules? I know China is a special case but… that doesn’t seem very logical. The rules say you can move into those 2 spots… but doesn’t say you can ignore neutrality.

UK is not neutral. She is at war with Germany and Italy.

But United Kingdom and India are 2 different powers. The only thing they share are Techs. United Kingdom can actually declare war on Japan and India still be Neutral…. ?

Read it nevermind lol, Uk can’t do that. Another Illogical thing to add :(

end note UK split = Nonsensical, really needed to do a better job at seperating the two. When UK falls, India can not pick up IPC from fighting in the Middle East. Very unreasonable.

If two US carriers were attacked by a Japanese submarine, and there were no US destroyers present, the fighters on the carrier that got damaged would not be lost in the air. They would be stuck on the deck of the carrier until the carrier could get to a friendly naval base for repairs.
Since planes can not hit submarines without a friendly destroyer present, if a submarine attacks a carrier there is no reason for the planes to take off from the carrier. They would simply have to withstand the attack aboard the carrier like cargo on transports in hopes that the carrier’s own anti-sub defenses can get the sub or the sub breaks off the attack.
Therefore, you would not lose your planes if the carrier only took one hit.
However, say your carrier is next to a friendly island or coast and gets attacked by a pack of subs that gets two hits on that carrier. Then you would lose your planes even though they are just 1 space away because they never took off from the carrier because planes can’t hit submarines. That part sucks.

All of that is wrong. The planes are always in the air and thus if the CV is damaged, they have to land within 1 space or die.

Calvin is correct. The only times planes are considered in Cargo on a CV is when they are your allies planes, at which point they are not in the air until that players turn.

To clarify that, allied planes are only cargo if the carrier is attacking. If the carrier is defending, allied planes can still try to land within one space.

My mistake guys. I just went back and reread the rules regarding carriers and defending aircraft and see now that ANY attack on the carrier has the planes defending in the air, even if the attack is by subs. I guess I missed that part before. Thanks for the correction.
