why did the guy in south africa flip to being neutral and then back to german?
If a territory starts contested on your turn, you are not obligated to fight there, but the game engine doesn’t support this, if opposing players are in a territory, it will always make them fight. If you want to refuse battle you either have to edit out your men before combat and then edit them back in, or swap your men for neutrals so that dice aren’t rolled. In this case, since the neutral representing my guy didn’t get killed off on your turn as expected, I flipped him back to German.
the game chose your fighter as automatic casualty in the battle and afterwards held a “fight” between the fighters. I guess this is was wrongly handled?
Yes, you resolved the ground battle before the required air battle. Sometimes the game engine will warn you that the air battle needs to be resolved first, but it often doesn’t, so you have to be on your toes about this and make sure you resolve in the correct order (same with dealing with the attacks you have to force in to represent Artillery defending naval invasions).

You said “the canal” but I assume you meant “the Channel”/SZ9. Yes, it is allowed to fly over into Belgium or Picardy provided it is landing in a space that will contain a UK Infantry at the end of the turn, and you will have to use Edit Mode to do this.

@Guderian1 Let’s just proceed, I wouldn’t worry about it. I will also mention that the game engine casualty selections are its own recommendations, they aren’t rules. So just because it happens to offer up one of my Fighters as a loss, you don’t have to take that option. My standard OOL is Inf (until last) -> Art -> Fighter -> Tank -> Last Inf.

The attack on Mesopotamia was not handled correctly. Since you shipped in units by sea, ALL the Ottoman Artillery get a pre-battle fire, with the casualties limited to only those units that were delivered by sea. I used Edit Mode to give myself this roll that I should have had on the British turn, but knowing you could have lost 4 units before the battle even started may have changed your calculus on even doing that attack to begin with.

The only avoidance you get is that if you move troops by sea into a territory that was contested at the start of your turn, it is an amphibious reinforcement and not an amphibious attack, so you don’t keep facing the free Artillery rolls over and over and your BBs also don’t bombard again.
