Due to holidays and other commitments our numbers were whittled down to just three players this time, but that meant more action for us!
We played 1914. Dukla passer played Italy and Russia with a non-forum player taking UK, USA and France. Private Panic played Germany, AH & Turkey.
With fewer players we managed to complete more turns - eight in all. However, we forgot that in 1914 unsupported infantry have an attack power of 2, instead playing them at 1, as for the ww2 A&A versions. Dukla passer spotted this after perhaps the 5th turn but we decided that we should continue as we had started.
That of course slowed down those advances which were meant to swiftly eliminate an enemy power - giving both R and T an extended life.
Nevertheless, Moscow fell in turn 8. By contrast, T fared much better and had by the end begun to overcome the allied forces arrayed against it. This is despite being reduced to 9 ipcs at one stage.
Elsewhere:
The USA was bringing to an end G’s ability to roam Africa at will.
F’s forces had taken control of Alsace.
A-H dominant in northern Italy and at the gates of Rome, although that was heavily defended by multi-national forces.
AH also therefore threatening southern F, which had served to divert F reinforcements away from the G front, giving hope to the Axis that Alsace would be recaptured.
Allied fleets in control of the Med. G and UK navies continually contesting the North Sea. Two significant naval engagements there won by the UK, despite one being on absolutely equal terms and the other with a clear Axis advantage.
Private Panic felt that the game should be declared a draw as neither side had a clear winning position. Dukla passer felt that the Axis had a 60/40 advantage, perhaps because of Turkey’s renaissance. He is a gentleman!
