@simon33 Yes, let’s see what we can make out of it. Haven’t played it in a long time; forgot about Manila scramble.
A small chance of keeping the plane alive.

No scramble obviously.

Good luck on the dice rolls! May the gods of fortune be in your favor.
Exactly as it should have been; a total annihilation.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Sorry for the poor play. Taranto was an absolute disaster which probably sealed the game anyway as the Allies cannot take that kind of beating; but what is really frustrating was my horribly poor play in the Pacific.
In my debrief I counted 3 mistakes in the Pacific in the first 2 Turns. Totally unacceptable.
Thanks and good luck in the Tournament!
I am sad that the game only went on for 3 rounds.
Yes, Taranto was bad for you, no doubt. I have done the same thing as you saving the carrier and landing the planes there. I think you shouldnt do that. Even in this situation Germany is only supposed to lose two or three planes i they bring in everything. Is it worth it? I dont think so. But Taranto itself is not a bad move
I am curious about your three mistakes in the pacific? Can you share? Well, moving the fleet next to Japan require big balls I think as you are completely out of position for the money islands. I think you planned on landing in Korea. Maybe that move is a mistake? What are the other two?
Again, I am sorry the game is so over so fast. But as always you are a gentleman to play against
@oysteilo Congrats! I figured this game could go either way, but that you were the underdog given Andrew’s record. I did take a quick look and in my mind, while Oysteilo was in good shape, it was not yet a moment where I would have gambled on that battle. Curious what made you decide this was necessary now.
From my point of view I was in big trouble on both sides of the board.
Germany and Italy were becoming dominant due to a disastrous Taranto.
Therefore, to have some balance I needed to do well in the Pacific. By not holding Yunnan when I should have Japan was in great position in China and threatening India. If I had pulled the US fleet back to Midway, as I contemplated, the Japanese could have moved their entire air force against India putting me behind int he Pacific too.
Just played poorly. I prefer the Axis. :)
@AndrewAAGamer said in OOB playoff oysteilo (axis) vs. AndrewAAGamer (allies +59):
- Should have bought 2 mech for India UK1 to assist in reinforcing Yunnan on UK2.
- Should have stayed in Yunnan on C2 using all the Russians to assist in defense. As it was I wanted the Russians to go to Iraq which was a blunder.
- Since I was gong for Korea I should have brought the 3 ANZAC fighters to Hawaii to land on Korea.
Fair ponts. Personally i think the Yunnan bid of +23 is the strongest bid you can do for +23. It is a no brainer to me. It should prevent J1, which is important. If you do the bid and still J1 I think Japan is in real danger of losing control of China especially with a 3 transport build. So I agree, it is VERY important to be aggressive with India if this is done. The retreat to India UK2 ws probably not your strongest move. Anyway, thanks for sharing!
Interesting game. @AndrewAAGamer I think when bids rise this high you should put a plane on Malta and avoid sending the CV into Taranto. Main risk of this attack is if no defending hits occur on the first round you need to send the CV in anyway. still should be no more than 1/6 of games do you lose the CV this way. You could have done this by omitting the 111 sub and some of the cash you kept.
@AndrewAAGamer I get it. And I try not to drag games out as well so I think that is good. But I think here I probably would have still waited a couple of turns to see if I could have gotten more headway without any major gambles. But perhaps that would just delay things.
@farmboy I have to agree with you that there were alternative moves that would have better chance of winning. Only ~2% odds for that Tokyo strike. Way higher chance that oysteilo gets diced in a different battle or makes a critical blunder that swings the odds back into the favor for a strong player like Andrew.
China is doing okay; Russia is fine; India will hold out for a while longer. I don’t see this as an inevitable win for the Allies so early in the game with so much room for bad dice and major mistakes.
