@MrRoboto can you remind me how I do that? And is it the norm that you see the rest of the dice before deciding on the casualty for the sub hit. My assumption was that you have to decide now before the rest of the dice are rolled.
No that is a tripleA thing, but the official rules say that casualties are chosen after ALL combat hits.
That’s why I tend to roll sea battles on the forum, especially those small ones where a single sub hit makes a huge difference.

In the europe rules it is on page 19 under step 2
after explain submerge and surprise strike it says

this step (step 2) is over for this round of combat. As
long as there are attacking and/or defending submarines
and no opposing destroyers, this step is repeated during
each round of combat. Any hits made during this step
that don’t destroy units (such as battleships and carriers)
remain in effect until they are repaired.
And then it goes on to:
Step 3. Attacking Units Fire

If I had a destroyer, the casualties are chosen at the end, with all others

@farmboy I’ll stick with doing it with the in game dice and ignore the dice here. my thinking was to force a carrier hit and then retreat if the roll wasn’t good enough first round.
I scored 3 hits. So now I’m assuming the same as before and you will keep the cruiser.
