Hey folks, anyone know of a standing live game in the greater Washington DC area for experienced players? My brother and I have been playing 1940 2nd edition a couple times a year for the last decade. Never thought to reach out on this forum, but it looks like a good group of folks.
Global 1940 US & UK Lend-Lease
-
This rule is part of the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.
Note:
This rule is not included in the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion rulebook - since play testing was not finished before the release of the revised rulebook.Players should therefore agree before game start if the US & UK Lend-Lease rule is used in their game.
The US & UK Lend-Lease rule concerns Lend-Lease between United States & United Kingdom.
The play testing has ended in Late 2022.
The final results are described below. These rules can be added as an Optional Rule to the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.
-
Cool! I canât wait!
-
The US & UK Lend-Lease rule includes the following units & rules:
-
From the beginning of the US playerâs turn in Late 1941 the United States can send up to 3 Air Units (all types of Air Units are included) to the United KIngdom.
Even if the United States is not at War. -
Exception: Aircraft Carrier Based Fighter units cannot be part of the US & UK Lend-Lease rule.
-
From the beginning of the US playerâs turn in Late 1941 the United States can send up to 3 Naval Units to the United Kingdom as part of the Lend-Lease program.
The Naval Units included are Destroyer units and/or Escort units.
The overall rule concerning these Lend-Lease units:
- US Air units must be converted to UK Air units in the United Kingdom territory
- US Naval units must be converted to UK Naval units in sz 109 and/or sz 119.
The rules must follow the same game mechanisms that applies to the Lend-Lease rules concerning the Soviet Union (see the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion page 19).
In other words:
- The US units cannot take part in any Combat during the US playerâs turn before being converted to UK units.
- The UK player must pay 1 IPC for each Lend-Lease unit
- The US units must be converted to UK units on the first coming UK playerâs turn
- If the US units are attacked before they are converted to UK units, they defend as usual. If these units are destroyed in Combat before they are converted to UK units, they do not count as Lend-Lease units - and the US player can therefore send new Lend-Lease units the the UK player.

How can the US not be at war in Late 1941 when they can do so in Early 1941? Are there any reasons or strategies not doing so? Thank you!
-
@the-captain this looks pretty cool. I think UK could use a little boost. If it affects Germany too much, maybe consider giving a free U-Boat off Normandy the turn after they conquer it. The more the merrier lol
Anyway just a thought : )
-
How did this playtest go? Is this rule expected to be included in the rules at some point, or wasnât it a success? It looks interesting in my opinion.
-
Considering the date, isnât this the same rule as in the main rules?
-
The US & UK Lend-Lease rule works satisfactory concerning Game Play Balance and simplification of the rules.
It is an Optional Rule in the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion.
Due to the number of Units & Rules that are already included in the Axis & Allies Global 1940 House Rules Expansion rulebook, we chose not to include this rule in the rulebook.
-
@the-captain i had forgotten about this. Iâll have to add as an option :)
The 3 air and naval are total correct ? Same as ussr ?
-
Good idea, didnât notice the part concerning naval units, showing that itâs different from the finished/final Lend Lease rule. Thatâll be a good inclusion.
-
Hi barnee,
The USA can send 3 Air units and 3 Naval units as part of the US-UK Lend-Lease Program.
Remember:
When playing the Global 1943 Expansion, those Air & Naval units have already been send to the UK and are now part of the UK forces. -
@the-captain right on. So only for 1940 Game Start. Iâll add as an option next update.
-
Added as a Game Option for latest triplea update. Version 1.87 October 27 2023.
This has no affect on Game Play. It just adds a âGame Optionâ for a simple way for Players to agree to using the Optional rule. It may be expanded in the future. Is On by Default at Game Start.
I Hope to add LL specific units that will only allow placement in the correct zones. Hopefully they can auto change as well.
The above Rules are included in the Game Notes as well as a link to this thread.

Awesome! đđ

The US & UK Lend-Lease rule will be included in the the 4th Northern Europe Axis & Allies Wiking-Con which will be held in Denmark in Early 2024.
Game Reports will soon after be posted at the Global 1940 & 1943 Expansions Game Report Thread

Even if the United States is not at War.Does this include Strategic Bombers ? Or even Heavy Bombers when theyâre avaiable ? Or just Tacs and Ftrs like the commies get ?
-
It includes all types of Air units - except Carrier Based Fighter units.
So, yes - Strategic Bomber units are also eligible for US-UK Lend-Lease
-
Great Thank you

So itâs not included for this year then ? I didnât see it, just want to make sure.
Edit
Oh yea, might want to add to the optional list too, as itâs not there. The one with all the cool new stuff :)
