Question About Kamikazes

Let’s say Americans have 1 Battleship, 1 Destroyer, 1 Transport and you wanna use Kamikaze.

I use all 6 Kamikaze Tokens. I use 3 tokens on Battleship, 1 on Destroyer, 2 on Transports. (Is this how it works?) If you hit twice on transports, is the 1 extra hit “wasted?” Do you roll each unit individually? Thank you for help @Krieghund lol.
