US moving to West Africa (was: AI strategy)

So I was playing with the AI on TripleA.

One thing I noticed the US doing in two different games (different versions) was moving units to West Africa.

Can anyone explain this strategy please? How does this work and how useful is it?

Thank you. I’m a total amateur at the different strategies. I only have one for the US in the Atlantic:

Go against Europe, land in either Spain and Portugal if brave, France if conditions are right, or North Africa for a Mediterranean strategy. The AI thinks way out of the box compared to me. I can barely understand it, especially when it doesn’t attack. I’m hyper aggressive, attacking everywhere with a good win probability.

The original title “AI strategy” mislead me thinking this topic was specifically about the TripleA AI-design/decision rather than about a game scenario. I’ll change the title and move the topic back to ‘Global 1940’.
