What happens next?
Uh, annexing is not allowed in the game, and the Dutch government in exile still maintained control over the islands. Because of this, Japan could never have taken the East Indies peacefully. They couldn’t have taken French Indochina either without the US and UK sanctioning them, because the UK was worried about the proximity pf Japanese bases to Singapore.
But let’s ignore this, since you just want those territories to go to Japan. If the territories just became Japanese, I’ll race to protect the islands before the UK and ANZAC threaten them. My Pacific strategy will otherwise be the same, namely don’t attack first.
@joephillips There is no provision in the rules of the game for “annexing” territories. If you want to create house rules for this, it’s up to you what happens; however, when it comes to a hostile power, “annex” is just a diplomatic word for “attack”.
