Actually the idea was that the two of us play two games each at same time: the regular playoff and the “bonus match” against dawg (me) / ABH (you). If the winner of regular playoff is beaten in the bonus match ABH / dawg will take the spot.

Um, let me thicken the plot further.

TinCan has now messaged me saying he would be willing to take a spot in the OOB playoff if needed.

I could say no, too late, if some of you are bidding and starting your games. Then we would just carry on with badger playing ABH and Pacifier playing Dawg (while they’re each also playing their first rounds)

But then that leaves a 3rd player out of the 8-man bracket.

What do you OOB players think?

Maybe there is a third volunteer? Slight difference is that TinCan would have had a seed in “1st-bracket” and that messes with who plays against whom?

But if you are looking for a competent fill-in “body”

I would do it. And play any version, at the mercy of the community request.

And I claim the right of first come first serve!

I get that I haven’t played in the league in a few years, but was always a capable and dangerous opponent!

Sure. TinCan didn’t make the signup date.
If TinCan becomes the #2 (everyone would have to agree) then Martin won’t be the #8 against Myygames, he would potentially have a chance to play a “volunteer” who would probably not be as tough as Myygames, and would give him a chance of getting straight to the 2nd bracket. So actually, Martin might like it better.

No changes will be made unless I hear from most of the OOB players saying they want TinCan in as #2

Yeah, can’t do it because everyone else had to have 3 games completed during the regular season. I’d let you in if I could. Have you even played “out of the box” in recent years? lol

I see it like @FlyingBadger : I’m not sure I 100% understand what is going on, but it’s all fine with me. I don’t care who I am crushing, and I also never remember the names. LOL ;-)

@Myygames and myself have finished the bidding, and he is already shivering, but we did not start playing yet.

Let’s maybe clarify the rules for next year’s Playoffs to avoid this kind of hiccup going forward.

Just let me know who I shall play against, and it shall be all good.

As Martin Said we agreed on a bid but have Not started yet.

I too am not 100% sure what the ask is. I do not care who I play and leave it up to those with more understanding to decide. My only plan is to win, win, win…

I do apologize for the confusion. This is what has happened:

1. Pacifier was right to ask about dawg and ABH standing alone, and had an idea to bring them in. What I’ve done in the past is just have them playoff against each other and winner is champion of the (tiny) bracket. Never heard any complaints.

2. Pacifier agreed to play dawg at the same time as Pacifier’s first round contest. If Dawg beats Pacifier and Pacifier wins his first round, then Dawg takes his place and Pacifier is out.

3. I was looking for another volunteer to play ABH in the same way as Pacifier. I don’t think we have one yet, unless I forgot in the confusion.

4. TinCanoftheSea has been away for months, I think, and heard about the playoffs and is interested but made it clear he can take it or leave it, would fill a spot if we needed it.

Now I’m mostly hearing from OOB playoff signups that whatever, give me some meat and I’ll kill it.

I would like to re-draw the bracket so TinCan is #2. Then we would need someone to volunteer to play Martin in the same way as #2 above (and also ABH).

I asked if anyone had dived into their game yet and all I’ve heard so far is Myygames and Martin finished bidding but they don’t care if that’s scrapped.

I would have just left the brackets the way they were if Pacifier hadn’t made his argument, but this way is good too.

And #2 TinCan is in, which is good.
Now if we just had one more OOB player, we’d have a 2nd bracket of 4. We could still do a 2nd bracket of 4 if we give the #1 a bye. For now I’ll leave it the way it is.

ABH, Dawg, Martin, would you rather have this chance to play in to the main bracket, or would you rather have your own bracket of 3 players, 2 rounds?

OK. OOB bracket re-drawn, everyone has a different opponent because TinCan is in. We need 3 different players to agree to play Martin, ABH and Dawg at the same time as their first round, or else Martin, ABH and Dawg should have their own 2 round bracket. Dawg already has Pacifier.

Just trying for the highest average enjoyment for all, here.

Since I’m not in the OOB tournament, its moot to me, but I’ll second pacifiersboard since that is probably the simplest way forward. Tincan was late to the party so he has to play an extra game to defend his right to be there. And badger and pacifier have already volunteered so they are the other 2.

The other way is just that the 6th,7th, and 8th ranked players have to play against the 11th, 10th, and 9th ranked players in order to get in the first round. That would add effectively another round and give mygames, tincan, and andrew a bye. But that might delay things too much for mygames, tincan, and Andrew since things wouldn’t start for them for a couple of months.

If no one else volunteers, @TinCanoftheSea will have to do the job ^^
