I dont really know much about the USA. I read a little bit about the war 1773 and Boston Tea Party and about Civil war 1861-1865. But know I knew a lot of Iowa and I am surprised. Your State Its called in Germany: Idyll (very lovely place to live) between Mississippi and Missouri River. Your state has near the half of the land as my whole country and only 3 million people against 84 million in Germany. You need 40 million people to have it like in Germany.
Many German tourits write about the Loess Hills National Scenic Byway and Great River Road. Pictures looks great. And Des Moines looks a little bit european ? -

@elche Very interesting observations.
Yes, after looking at Hanover I looked up China again and their 114 cities that are over 1 million people. Then driving home from work Friday night (about 45 miles), I enjoyed all the open space that we have. Not like Wyoming or Montana, but with only 3 million in the whole State, we have breathing room.

So I got lucky in 41, that helps take a little sting out :anguished:

Iowa is actually a native American word, and I was told in school it means “a beautiful land”
Iowa was granted statehood in 1846.
European population in 1850 was 192,000
1860 was 675,000. If you go into a county courthouse, they list all who fought in the Civil war. Pretty much every able bodied man did.
1880 was 1.6 million. Farmland was pretty much up for grabs. You just had to clear the trees. My great grandfather immigrated in approx 1870’s? from Germany. I would have to look up what part of Germany he came from. All my ancestors on both sides were immigrants, probably all after the civil war. Pretty much farmers who wanted to try it in America where the land was cheap. So my ancestors missed out on the Civil War in America (they were in Germany) and missed out on WWI and WWII (they were safely in USA) so they were very blessed.
So I know that relative to Europe, the middle of the USA is VERY young, and there were more native Americans (Indians) than Europeans here just about 150 years ago. Many of us kids grew up thinking that our ancestors beat off the bloody British in 1775 and 1812, but the reality is almost all of us were descended from recent immigrants from the 1870’s to 1920’s. But our parents and schoolteachers never pointed this out. :D :D

Here’s my weird G4
Lol I’ve only played one game of balanced mod as the Axis, and that was in 2017. I think I got slammed by a UK scramble on G1, too. No wonder this feels strange. -
Thank you for the informations.
very interesting that your family comes from Germany.
If you need any help to find something out I will help you. I can read a little bit of old german language (SĂĽterlin) and I travel arond my country. I live in Hannover, work 3 month a year in Trier, visit my children in Stuttgart and Karlsruhe and stay 2 times a year in Berlin. My Grandparents(m) come from Olstyn (Allenstein) and Bytom (Beuthen), Gp(f) from Leipzig and Hannover.
After 1872 and the II German Reich condition to live in Germany are much better.
If I visit USA I will look for a part of my family(sister of my Grandma) went to USA ca. 1915 to Waco/Texas. Her Name was Eggert. I have only 1 picture from 1926. If you are interested I will do a scan from picture and at least Name of Birth. -
Did you understand and read german ?
For sure there is any part of your family still in Germany.Game History

I do not know any German. You can take it as a class in college, but few do. Because of WWI, the German language was severely discouraged. Many spoke German in church services but that was banned. I don’t think the German language ever recovered in USA, and most other European languages as well. Immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s wanted to assimilate and become Americans, and learned English while discarding their language and even their heritage.

I don’t know why I didn’t get alerted that you posted 12 hours ago… Was on a different computer, but still…
Well, now I see it

It appears neither the Germans nor the Russians want to fight any more. Eventually they accidentally got some hits :D
