L22 PtV max334 (Axis+7) vs FlyingBadger (Allies)

@flyingbadger I was hoping you wouldnt see the vulnerability of my Italian fleet, because I sure the hell didnt see it until when I looked at it just a few days ago. Sometimes I just get a little too cocky and careless. Like with the Japanese in China. Well played
-
@max334 It’s my job to make careless mistakes, stay in your lane!
Those mistakes seem uncharacteristic with the rest of your play. Maybe the unusual situation of an airbase on Morocco didn’t help (which was a bit of a gamble and maybe not the best play but seems to have paid off so far).

@flyingbadger Can Axis even win this game (PTV) without taking any capitals? I think I see why you played defensively for the first few rounds. If the Allies hold onto all their capitals, I’m thinking its near impossible to beat them.

There is a way, the 13 VC global victory. The European Axis take France, Leningrad, Ukraine and Egypt. Japan takes Hong Kong, Malaya, Manilla and Hawaii.

In the current round of our game the Allies have an income advantage of +13, but it wouldn’t take much for that to be different, even holding all the Allied capitals. Then the Axis have the economic advantage and the Allies no longer have time to build up.
I’ve certainaly lost plenty of PtV games against the Axis whilst, initially at least, retaining my capitals:
- Germany taking Leningrad and pushing through Ukraine and taking Stalingrad and going into the Caucsasus takes income from Russia and hits a lot of German objectives.
- Italy hitting multiple objectives in the Med.
- Japan doing pretty much what you are doing in out game.
I just fight the British way. We like our wars to last a 100 years and our cricket games to last 5 days.

thanks for putting a funny spin on it.

I’m looking back in history and those ftrs in Morocco where nearly completely covered by all the stuff there. Just trying to learn from my mistake. Abandoning Gibralter was also a mistake. My thinking was that you didnt need it because you had the harbor and air field in Morocco.

I’ve done that before. If you click on the Territory tab, click and hold the left mouse button on the territory you want to check and ‘drag’ and release the mouse over the Territory panel it will let you see what’s in there.

I think you were in a tricky spot, it would have been very expensive to keep hold of but in Allied hands the door is open into the Med.
I’m full of cold but think I know what I needed to do with ANZAC and France so hopefully not too much to get wrong.

Still a little confused with subs vs ftr battle. When you attacked the Med. fleet, should that Italian sub have had the option to fight because I had a DD in the battle?
Also look at Gorky, I assumed no scramble, but I really wasnt sure -

I don’t think so those u-boats could affect that battle. My understanding is that u-boats can’t hit planes, and planes can’t hit u-boats if there is no destroyer present. Wasn’t sure so looked it up and found the rule.
Submarine unit profile from page 32 of the 1940 2nd Edition Rulebook.
Can’t Hit Air Units: When attacking or defending, submarines can’t hit air units. Can’t Be Hit by Air Units: When attacking or defending, hits scored by air units can’t be assigned to submarines unless there is a destroyer that is friendly to the air units in the battle. -

That’s right, I wouldn’t have scrambled.

@flyingbadger thanks… The DD has to be friendly to the air units, got you

@max334
I have been looked at this turn, just taking me time to figure out. Naval moves in PtV, always complicated… -
@flyingbadger :+1:
-
@max334 Thanks, I’ve had about half a dozen goes at putting something together but nothing that works yet, the naval situation is complicated - especially in the Pacific. Seems like a key point in the game too, you’re the superior player but I’ve had some luck and it’s well balanced.
-
@flyingbadger the US fleet is dangerous so i kind of boxed them in and i’m trying to stay out of range of the UK fleet
-
@max334 You’ve blocked them up nicely so you have been able to position your fleets to create mutiple threats. I think I have figured out what I want to do in the South Pacific, just need to figure out the rest of the world and I’ll be ready!
The naval forces in/around the Pacific are even-ish if composed differently. Also with some forces unable to immediately help others or planes needed on land, also the Allies are only able to combine on defence.

FFS :confounded: My totally amazing plan only works if the US goes after the UK… :clown_face:
