@jdow there is a pretty good chance I’ll go for Spain on my next turn. I’m going to look first at other options but I figured that was my last best chance. I assume it’s a safe bet to go max d on the defense there given the units and also since anything short of a win means that I surrender.
-
@farmboy Sure, max defense at Spain

@jdow Thanks for the game! And sorry for dragging it out there. I had more or less lost the game when you sunk the med fleet but I wanted to see if I could turn it around.
-
@farmboy Thanks, was a fun one. It was an intense game and I think Axis were doing okay even prior to butchering the fleet, but Allies had counterplay and things going on, too.
But as you said, after the fleet was annihilated that cheaply, the Allies fought an unwinnable uphill battle.
A bit comparable to my semi final vs AD that was technically lost after I blundered by Jap fleet in turn 2. I dragged it out for another 30 turns, but AD never allowed me to get back in the game. With regard to the attack on Spain. I believe the battle did not have the potential to turn the tide, even if e.f. Allies would have won with let’s say 1 armor and 8 planes.
You would have needed enough survivors to prevent an IT can opener because otherwise, the TTs would have been butchered the next turn. Also, Japan was doing extremely well and although I underestimated how long you could defend Korea by defending it so fiercely, it would have become a liability for the Allies sooner or later.
In 1-2 turns I would just have made a push towards it and all ground units would have been butchered after the planes have abandoned them to save themselves.
Also, I still believe I would have taken NSW rather safely if I wanted to. I was too lazy to calculate the implications but I think I had so many planes that I even threatened air strikes on your fleet if it came too close to the Japanese coast.Good luck in your other games and in the play offs!
-
@jdow thanks! Spain might haven not been enough and it was pretty much a given that I was going to sacrifice 7 transports to take it (3 could retreat). But at that point I thought I needed a good result against hte Germans or I was done. Trading for that stack might have put me in a position to hold or retake Spain I thought. Had the dice luck been reversed that first round (you were 7 above average, I was 5.5 below) I actually might have done well enough to hold Spain after with the British landing too.
That wouldn’t have won me the game, but having an allied foothold in Spain and the TUV exchange might have given me some new life.Had you moved for NSW, I’m not sure you could have helld it and I htought I had a couple of options there. One was to abandon Korea and try to trap your fleet with the air that would come down. I also had thought of moving the US units from the Atlantic (all the transports and most of the air) into the Pacific. I thought with your fleet out of position I might be able to force you to choose between Tokyo and the fleet. But you played it safe and I wouldn’t have had much more luck that way than with Spain.
-
@farmboy Btw, I have to mention that overall, I had good dice throughout the whole game. This Caucasus thing was the only thing that could count as bad dice for Germany and compared to the length of the game that was really little.
Especially early Japan had very little losses in those land battles in China that added up.Also, butchering the Allied fleet could have gone worse. Just wanted to mention that the dice were in favor of the Axis in total during that game.
-
And the IT1 went poorly, too, but G1 was very good which is way more important.
