@flyingbadger Well, time to comment end of round 3. It’s amazing that it is only 3 rounds we played, with so much going on everywhere. If not for the tactics, maybe J1 attack is good because it makes the game more fun and more open - there are just so many possibilities everywhere, for both sides.
So far, I think Italians should have made the difference and they did not. They are late into the game, not able to break Britain in the Egypt and this might prove fatal for the Axis. But it is hard with UK keeping its Mediteranean fleet - you can not just go with full invasion force, with all those RAF and fleet still around. They are too slow, I would have need them earlier in, maybe on 30 IPC by the round 4.
Japan is good, they have managed to rise the income quickly, but did not make victorious move yet. Maybe I should have gone for the Melbourne quicker, while keeping Americans out of the game?
Germans doing good so far, but again, the fleet is not THAT strong, while Eastern front is also not that agressive. It is difficult to do well with Axis, I admire your win in our game, you did very well with Germans to keep Americans out of the Europe.

Yes, I keep looking at the round number and think we must be later on than that, guess the early DOW really gets things moved along.

It does overstretch Japan’s very limited land units, but it does put pressure onto the US straight away and will be force different reactions and approaches to most other games of PtV

Italy has a moderate income and has been able to build up a good number of units without losing many. It has a decent navy and a large army in North Africa. It has made gained a foothold in the Middle East. As you say though, the Brits are still holding out in Egypt which can’t be ignored with the US now consistently landing troops onto Africa and moving east. It is drawing forces away from Germany which Hitler should be gratful for.

By the end of round 3 Japan had good income, a lot of the early key territories, and the US navy in the Pacific is still at arms length so the IJN still have good freedom of movement to pick their targets. Australia is a juicy target and can become a problem if left to grow it’s forces but commiting to taking the capital puts the rest of the Pacific at risk, a tough choice.

The Kreigsmarine have caused trouble for the Allies and helped ward off any early landings in Europe, but it hasn’t stopped Allied landings in North Africa. It is still a powerful force but perhaps no longer offensively strong enough, at least away from air cover. Putting more IPCs into the German navy or spending those on units for the Eastern front is a difficult decision. It is still early for Germany and capturing Leningrad and Ukraine in G4 is good, and an Axis pincer with the Italians into the Caucasus is a possibility.
It was the first time I had taken that approach with the Germans, maybe it only worked because you hadn’t seen it before, but you are wiser now? -
