@magnum I’m not yet convinced that letting them pick what they want, and potentially the same thing, is a problem. If anything, this will give them the opportunity to try out different strategies, involving research, and see how they work.
DK's Progressive Arms Research system…

@dtodd3 Yes, although we haven’t played in a while since I’ve moved and have to build a new War Room.
-
@Der-Kuenstler hope your new war room is built by now, just bought a copy. In your opinion, how does this research method blend with national advantages? Do you use NA + research? Thanks
-
We don’t use NA’s - sorry! Maybe you can adapt it to them somehow.
-
Does anyone have a copy of the rules for this? I purchased the chart off HBG and it didn’t come with the rules and the youtube video is no longer available.
-
@coedewa hmm I think there’s some old posts that have it. I’ll check later today

@coedewa I bought DK’s chart and system and had the same issue with the lack of rules. The answer is that you get a link to the rules for you to download after you pay for your order.
The mechanism they use for that is quite opaque. My solution to this problem was to complain to HBG using their order feedback system, the one on their site. They emailed me a copy of the rules that day.

@coedewa Here you go…DK’s Progressive Arms Research Rules.pdf Sorry for your trouble!

@der-kuenstler Hey just revised your research rules a little bit. The Super Subs sounded too OP so I changed the defense to 2 ONLY. I also felt that research tokens were unfair so I made it so every round, there is a research “sequence.”
Each Major Country (Japan, United States, Italy, Europe UK, and Germany) gets 2 research die and the rest (besides of France and China) gets 1. We are play testing it on Pacific 40 and my group thinks it’s fun (ANZAC keeps rolling 6’s.) I made the Copy Cards cost 5 IPC’s each (you can use them any turn you want) and if you roll a 6 you get to copy any research on the board for 1 turn.
It feels balanced enough, in the Pacific map, the allies have a edge on technology but that is expected anyways (unless we give Japan 3 or something but it feels too much)

@all-encompassing-goose Sounds good - hope you have lots of fun with it!
