This looks strange. It’s as if the american des is on the japanese side.
I think I’ll have to redo this before starting battle-round 2.
I’ll check the numbers and adjust. The roll is the important part, so after your chosen casualties I’ll roll for the defence. Might be that US has one @2 more and J one less.
-
The numbers seem to be correct though. J has a power of 68, which is 11 1/3 hits. There was @2 rolled in the attack, so that looks right.
-
US has a power of 46 on the defence, which means 7 2/3 hits, rolling @4.
-
I notice US only has 1 des to choose as casualty, so I believe that the edited des will not participate. The client will roll @2 then, but I’ll count it as @4.
-
Max d and sinking the sub (disguised as a destroyer) is evident, but then there’s the choice of keeping either a des or a cr.
Japan has 2 subs in the battle and might keep them if the sub goes down.
I think it’s rational to keep the des, since it’s only 1 power difference, but 2/3 risk of losing a full ship that can’t hit back if no des is present.
-
Since US lacks one unit, I will take a fig as casualty for now, but fix that to the next battle-round.
-
US rolled 2, so got 8 hits.

I’m hitting the fleet by Philly with all I can.
Have switched the 3 participating subs (2 J, 1 US) to des for atleast the first battle-round. I think you’ll have to decide upon casualties, since I’m not sure about keeping the des or not.
If my 2 attacking carriers are damaged or sunk, I also have to till off 2 fig, 2 tac that came from z31.
I happens atleast in other versions that the client selects the air with the most range left as first casualties, but I’m not sure about OOB.
I think it makes sense to select casualties for the most defence value. Please do so, keep BB and planes.
3 carrier build, good move!

yes, did not think of that. between CR and DES i think keep DD is better

J will sink 1 ac and 3 des, dmg bs and torch 1 fig, 1 tac.

Was a 3 rolled in MARTI, but it was unintentional. Happened to open the wrong file so was the start of the same battle. I’ll disregard it.

Wanted to post the last one for clarity and statistics.
Here is the setup for the second battle-round.

Actually US has a defence of 45. One of the DD is actually a sub, right?

Yes, as I said in the beginning, this way of doing it is complicated (at least in these big battles). I think next game I will opt to use the out of the box functionality… Dont get me wrong, you are posting very transparent here, thanks for that. But I guess if I was to do it I would run crazy :-)

Well, I think that was it. Actually your 3 carrier build was not so hard to see, I could have noticed that. But somehow I did not, and now I see no point here to continue… with a presence in PHI I could have spread some harvoc now and there, but without it I have lost finally. I will post in the results forum today.
Very well played, sir. It was an honor to battle with you. I have known your nick since quite some time, lurking in the strategies forums and reading your posts. I thought I was also quite a decent player, but apparemntly I have much to learn. Thank you for the lesson!
Coming to learning I would kindly ask about your advise how to improve. So, summarizing my play, I see a couple of things that I could have done better, but I would ask you to add your perception here… would be very appreciated!
- I think my bid was not optimal. I like presence in the middle of the board. Nevertheless, I would go with more ground units next time. to be honest that was the highest bid I was ever playing with, and I did not put it very well here.
- I always try to leverage US between both parties, nevertheless this was not very well done here. A second AC in the Atlantic early would have brought much better results. Also, once you start bomber builds with US you should stick to that. I started too earyl and did not pull it through efficiently.
- Overall I was loosing too many units in small balltes. I like blocking the italien can opener with russia to deny G the caucasus one turn, so I still think thats a valid move. But I was also loosing units like this too many times, eg US blockers in the pacific. these should have been ANZAC instead. Also, of corse, fighting a retreat battle with UK is very consuming. Not sure though how that could be avoided.
Thanks again! Maybe I will challenge you again some time, once I have learned a little more… I hope I have bolstered your ego as I promised :-)

It was a pleasure to play with you, although neither OOB nor LL is my prefered choice. I’ll try to look into some analysis and get back to you.
