This is how I learned it here.
If I remember correctly, there was even a discussion about it bc of the Mix up of Crusier and Carriers.
CV is easier to identify a Carrier and means Carrier Vessel while the CR automatically reminds you of a Cruiser.
But Colt is right about that a CA stands for a Cruiser.
