@Elrood In our G40 game I lost an 80% battle to the Italian fleet and the allies have never recovered!

Ok, I pulled out of Leningrad. Joel has like 10 cruisers in range for prelim bombard, so, not much choice.
Sorry for all the edits. Feel free to audit to make sure correct.

Did I hit a bug? I thought submarines and supersubmarines got to submerge after one round of combat to escape from aircraft attacks? I kept seeing the option to retreat the Italian aircraft but didn’t see the option for the American submarines. I tried to follow max defense, killing the transport first, then the subs, then the carrier.
I was expecting that Italian aircraft attack and American units of the transport and carrier roll back. Submarines normally don’t get to shoot at aircraft. Then the option to submerge which I missed seeing if it was there should have popped up, and the option to retreat the Italian aircraft. Next round should have been surviving surface ships and surviving aircraft, with eventually only Italian aircraft and submerged American subs in the zone.
-
@Degrasse hi . I found that when. I ran it twice in Local . Was a bit surprised. Thought the Subs would survive too.
Can someone weigh in and explain? -
I did the same thing, reopened the game file as French, put 6 Italian ships and submarines in a sea zone and then attacked with 6 French airplanes. The two Italian ships missed and then the French planes killed the subs in the second round. No option to submerge.
-
@redrum msyve it’s a game option not toggled?
It’s that or it COULD be part of the rules/map/version update
-
As long as there isn’t a destroyer present then enemy subs should be given the option to submerge as WaW rules are based on revised edition.
-
there should have been an option for the subs to submerge against an air only attack. But they don’t have to submerge… they can be used to soak hits, which would have been in the best interest of the US in this case. Either way, the option to submerge didn’t appear … as it should have.
-
Possibly a minor NCM coming to Degrasse’s move.
Also - USA have any comment on stay and fight to save carrier? or submerge the subs?
-
@Degrasse i would like the two surviving Subs to have submerged after R1.
-
@Degrasse Or would it have been three , if the TT took the one hit on R1?
-
@Witt I think it would be 3 though then the italian adv fighter would be added back in.
-
I’ve done some tests in local and apparently the option to submerge subs in an air only attack are no longer available. I’m not sure how we should proceed with that in future moves.
-
@captainwalker Hmm. I tested this game and don’t get the submerge option. But then started a brand new WaW game and attacked the russian baltic fleet with a bunch of german planes and it does prompt to submerge the russian subs…
-
Can we edit bavk one It Ft and my three Subs then, please?
Bloody Annoying, that our game won’t accept what we had all got used to as the rule. -

Ok, I added back the units of the Italian fighter that landed with the other fighters and the three US super subs that would have submerged after the first round. Garg also pointed out that Sicily is not a strait and I needed to NCM one of the Italian destroyers there, which I did.
Actually, that makes three good questions about the map:
Subs should be given the option to submerge
Gibralatar is not a strait?
Sicily to the Italian mainland is not a strait? -
@Degrasse Yes to all 3 of those. Straits are marked by a single red dot otherwise they aren’t straits.
-
Blue dot. If Sicily and Gibraltar were straits there would be a double blue dot there. A single blue dot indicates that the territories are considered to be connected by land…like Palestine and Egypt.
-
@captainwalker could it be that we started this game with the older version where we were having the sub problem to begin with?
-
@dawgoneit i can’t get the save that Degrasse posted to work.
