    Been pondering that conundrum this afternoon. Not sure that taranto is a must - or thar it must be tobruk if not taranto. I have an idea i will try my first game with allies. Because italy has to take any threat to its fleet seriously - she can’t replace it, and its light on destroyers and subs to soak up hits.

  • I think we are starting to see WHY a bid is necessary. I get that folks see the gas as unbalanced, but I wasn’t clear on WHY that’s so. I’m starting to think that OOB leaves a limited array of either or choices in the beginning of the the game. And that each of those either or’s have a counter by the Axis that is devastating; making it impossible for the Allies to win without a bid. I still don’t see the nuts and bolts f this hypothesis, but I think the gray may be getting lighter.

    This is why I think is important for us to play with no bid. I want to understand exactly what the bid is trying to erase.


  • Also, what gives? Are the Germans and Russians at war? What are the consequences if I declare war on Hitler’s crazy ass.


  • MARTI will allow me to declare war, but without the rules handy, I’m not sure what I’m giving up if I do so.

    As it is now Turn 3 - Russia may declare war on Germany. Italy Declared war and took a territory. Than Germany is reinforcing ITALY’s territory while still at peace with Russia, netting Germany an extra 5 PU’s for the national objective of being at peace with Russia.
    It would behoove Russia to declare war on Germany.

    And agree with the bid statement.

    They can as they have had war declared on them by an Axis power. Namely, Italy. I think by the rules it has to wait until END of turn 3 if no previous war declaration has been made.


  • Well, the bad news is I’m going to see if I can get another hours sleep before my day starts. I can probably sneak in Russias turn before 11:00 AM my time, but no promises.

    Side note: I’m really glad I’m playing the way I am right now, not because it’s helping me win, but because it’s showing me why stuff should redone. Ahhh, the learning.

    Yeah. I feel that way a lot. Getting very expensive lessons in my league games right now. in 1 game, lost all of G first turn purchase on UK turn 2 (1 CV, 1BB, 1 CA, 2 Trans)
    About to lose the entire Italian navy due to some crazy ANZAC attack on ANZAC 2 in my other game. Who knew 2 INF represent a credible attack threat?!?!?!?! Not a noob!
