I figured the cruiser was going to die - was a calculated risk, and an expected loss.

Yeah - the russian sub in the baltic are like the infantry at stalingrad - you hope they deter, and if not throw them at the germarns and hope that they hurt something.
You can try convoying with the one in the atlantic.
I’m sure veteran players use it better.

I figure this is two newbies playing a game for fun and experience, so i’m going to be bold and say i was expecting the transport sunk @ java, but i thought you’d use a fig from queensland and land it on western aus or(more likely for better and safer position) northwest territory.
I am VERY new, so if you feel kind enough to spot those things and help out, great. If I just need ot learn hard lessons, That is ok as well

I find hard lessons are best, personally. On the other hand - its a game for fun, so i wont let you do a game ending move without the option of a redo.
This is only my 3rd game. But the wonderful thing about this site - you can go on another forum, download a game between 2 other players at say round 12. Ehen you open, select play local (not forum).
Next, in one of the menu’s, select game history (hot key is control H).
Then you can scroll through every move they made.
I learn a lot doing this. Thats why people use forum instead of play be email - allows other to watch.

Good flight?
All flights are a nightmare for me. But I got through the 6 hour flight and the 6 hours of processing and testing and now am at quarantine. The Chinese don’t play around with this virus. Every attendant in the plane was in full hazmat gear. And every attendant at the hotel is in full hazmat gear- Gloves, plastic suits, masks, and plastic shield and goggles. There is a reason there country had far fewer cases and fatalities than the US or Europe, even though they were the point of origin. Once they got on it, they got on it. I have to take my temp twice daily and send the results via an app. They leave the food by the door. No interaction between anyone and the folks in quarantine.
As to this game. Yes, I’m struggling getting oriented with the map, struggling to know what the heck I’m doing , struggling to pay attention to all the pieces. The J2DOW really through me.
But that said, I’m having a great time and it is really interesting to see a balls to the wall German drive on Moscow- fricking scary.
I thought the Chinese attack would have killed more guys, but hey, that’s the way it goes.
I’m starting to understand the need for a bid, but just starting. My head is pretty far up it, I must say.

Agree with the bid. I have the physical game, but havent played it with anyone but my 7y/o son due to the virus. That’s when i found this site. I lurked for 3 months before playing. Downloaded and read a lot of other people’s games. I think that gave me a running start. I saw most people play the balance mod, as the bid for OOB is in the 30’s and 40’s, while in the BM3 its between 10-20. But same as you - with really no game play, you cant conceptualize why the bids are what they are. Just starting to learn that one.
Your reaction to the german drive was what mine was vis a vis the japanese air force. My first game i was in such awe of what all those planes can do, and how much space they can cover - and its hard to keep track of it.
The battle calculator is key. So is playing the game in local mode to test things. I use both before i move. With out a lot of experience, doing so reveals a lot of what is obvious to a vetern player, because a newbie, you cant picture it in your head very well.
And i agree about flying. Used to have to do it a lot, and hated it, and have successfully avoided it for almost a decade.
The board game is so fricking cool. Love it - got it 4 weeks ago, I think.
I’m really glad I have it with me now. I’ve played 3 1/2 games against myself and its really a ton of fun.
The first time I used the Japanese Air Force against a stack, my jaw just dropped.
But against myself, I’m very slow, no sense of urgency or time. Against you, I’m just beginning to feel the importance of each piece and how the clock is ticking…louder and louder.
It’s also a bummer, maybe a blessing, that the German/Italians first round had such poor rolls. It’s given me a bit more of a chance. Without it, I think this game would be over already.
