    Funny how what looks like a mistake can look planned. Looking back at it - i see why it worked, and it isnt an obvious bad choice - anything less would have allowed italy to can open, and germany could have pushed onward. Expensive, yes - but sometimes the price is worth it. I’m going to replay that out on my own, both ways. I hadnt looked at it that way, and there is certainly a fortuitous lesson here.
    Speaking if expensive blocks:
    What do you think about the triple destroyer blocking in the pacific? It played out as i thought, still pondering how to leverage it. If i can at this point. Stalled you by at least 1 turn into india, and kept some of the dei from you for at least this turn and the next.

    @mainah …mmm… well economically it was a loss for you…you lost 3 dds (24ipc) 4 tts (28ipcs) and an inf in malaya (3IPc) 55ipcs for 1 damaged bb. However…you gained 10 ipcs from the territories and 3 ipc for the anzac NO…so a 42 ipc loss and cost me 12 in lost territory and NO…30 ipc loss and then you get the benefit of them again…7 ipc. So an overall loss of 23 ipc.

    If the allies were ahead economically then it is worth it…forces japan to take 2 rounds to clear the sea and then retake the islands. Those 2 rounds mean india is safe and perhaps the allied fleet can force some kind of mistake to take advantage of.

    As it happens all that it has done is lessen your TUV (total unit value) and your overall unit count…which when you are behind economically perhaps isnt optimal.

    A stronger move in your US/Uk turn would have been to take sumatra with the US entire fleet, reinforce it with the whole uk fleet and tts with full garrison and block off 37 and 42 with the anzac and french dds. You only need take 1 island to stop the NO…once the aussie fleet joined up your defence value would have been very strong…build an AB there on the US turn for a fighter garrison (either UK or Anzac or a mix). Would be almost impossible for japan to retake at that point without a very risky fleet battle

    Thank you! I i knew in straight economic terms, it wasn’t good. But i was thinking i could take out the jap DD’s used to take mine out to even the odds, mostly using UK forces, which would also remove some of your blockers, lessing the TUV swing and adding to what was my intent: strategic placement - saving calcutta for a turn or two and take advantage of that reprieve. My plan was to be able to hold the carolines with the us/anzac force, and pressure sz 6, east asia, and the philipones. But after i saw how it looked after your move, wasn’t so sure it would work, or even matter if it did. you moved mostly like i had thought you would have, but once it happened, i realized how strong it was, much stronger than i had pictured in my head. Your plan is clearly better for that overall goal, with the much better odds against any counter attack. I think the tuv swing would have been worth it if i had done that.
    Wow. 2 big lessons in as many turns.

    @mainah The japanese airforce is ferocious and give a lot of strategic flexibilty but cant be everywhere. If the allies can group a strong fleet and hide beneath an air screen then it gives the japs pause for thought…if you can nab an island and hold it for a round or 2 then that is a lot of lost income.

    Unfortunately this is a bit late for you…with the US loss in the atlantic the germans and italians are running riot…

    Ohh I knowww - after Italy got to 20+, with no forces in sight to do anything but slow them down, I knew I was toast. But I knew I could learn a lot by trying to make the most of where I was - far more than trying to learn while I was winning every where.
    Might be a day or 2 before I get to the US/UK. I have enough Irish blood in me that I have to go down swinging, and pondering the best of a bunch of hard choices takes a bit.

    @mainah absolutely! The only way i learnt was by being thrashed a few times. I still find the end game can be difficult to know for sure with this mod version.

    Take your time though…the double allied move can be a game changer at times :+1:
