savegames from 1.9 are not compatible with the new 2.x release:

Also you and your opponent need to be on the same version. So make sure you are compatible before starting the game.

@Panther i’m sorry to bug you again. i’m not the brightest when it comes to computers. can you tell me how to put the new version into a different directory?

I am not at home at the moment so unfortunately I cannot post screenshots of the installation dialogue.
When you execute the setup you come to a point where you are asked about to install into a directory, usually that is
C:\Program Files\TripleA\
Now the task is not to install another version into the same directory - in that case you would overwrite the present installation - but into a different one.
So when it comes to the above mentioned dialogue simply click into the line where the installation path is indicated and change it to
C:\Program Files\TripleA_whatever\
You will then install another version side by side.
Later be sure to know which version you open with which shortcut/icon on your desktop.

@Panther how do i go from 1 version to another?
i’ll key up the new version and when i load a new game it’ll go to the old version.
@dawgoneit Every installation creates a TripleA shortcut on your desktop. Now those shortcuts look totally identically, so you need to figure out which shortcut is for which version.
So doubleclick on any shortcut and see which version starts. You determine the version on the top left of the starting screen:
Here you see it is Engine Version 2.1.20613.
Now load 2.1 savegames by klicking “Open Saved Games” and selecting the file.
In case you start the 1.9 engine load 1.9-savegames the identical way.
