    @trulpen and @axis-dominion Hi both!

    AD, I am a friend of trulpen’s and actually showed him AA 1940 tabletop, what was it, 2 years ago or something? Then he introduced me to AAA. I was reluctant at first, but now I love it, even though I don’t have 13 games ongoing at the same time ;)
    He has surpassed me in skill by now, but that is definitely deserved with the amount of time he spends here.

    Anyway, I have on my own accord as well as via discussions with trulpen followed your games and it’s very fun to watch and I learn a lot. Thanks! I have a question/comment to you AD, considering trulpen’s improvement over the course of your games. I feel like it has a lot to do with better basic tactics and opening moves on his part, correct me if I’m wrong, but how much would you say is about perfect openings and how much is about overall skill/strategy over the course of a full game? Reason I’m asking is because people usually discusses first rounds of a game a lot , which is not surprising since the game board always looks the same making such discussions easy and that first rounds are part of every game hehe. However, it makes me a little sad to think that the opening is where a game is decided, excluding extreme luck throughout a whole game from one side. I hope the overall strategy will be your answer, because otherwise the game would become quite lame after a while.

    hi pejon! nice to meet you! man what cool names, trulpen, pejon, :) thanks for the compliments, and those are some seriously excellent questions. I will answer them more fully sometime later today or tonight, when I have more of a chance to reflect on them, and I am not so distracted with work haha… I do want to give you a thoughtful answer coming from my considerable experience (I used to be like trulpen and play 10+ games concurrently, and easily accomplished 50+ games per season/year, but finally had to slow down on my addiction :)

    btw, unlike other top masters like jdow and Adam, I like to “mess around” a lot when I’m playing tiers 1 and E (i.e., try new fun openings and strategies that may not be optimal in the highest tier play), so that I can get a lot more variety out of the game, and usually I can get away with it, but sometimes I do run into some bad luck, then the game turns more serious and I have to really stop experimenting and play as streamlined as possible to pull out the win, banking more on my higher skill and experience levels. I also like to grant generous bids to my opponents, as you can see here in this game, but you usually won’t see that with other master players, as they feel more strongly about their reputation and ranking. I just don’t feel as strongly about it. while it’s nice, i much prefer to have a good time trying new things and getting into challenging situations that I have to pull myself out of.

    anyway, like I said, I’ll try to give a fuller answer later.

    That philosophy is really great I think. It makes it more interesting for you, you can try out new things and actually evolve the game and lesser opponents get to play you too :)
