You know what might be cool and alleviate some of this speculation as to why certain high rate jimmies don’t play lower players? What if we had some kind of team game where it was one of the big 3 versus all the rest of us. Not for league points or anything, just for fun. This would allow a lot of players to learn a lot about the game. It’s kind of like those old USSR versus the Rest Of The World chess matches, but in this case the “rest of the world” would all, well, not be in the same class as the top rate.

Just a thought. I mean, the high rates not playing the low rates has been an A&A issue for well over 20 years now. It doesn’t matter the ranking system. Gamer’s system does predict results very, very well, so that part is impressive, at least to me. It would just be cool if we had more knowledge passed around. The strategy boards aren’t what they used to be.

One of the coolest things about A&A is the multiplayer aspect, and here we almost always play it 1v1 :)

I hear you, and I’ve listened to these arguments for years. This is my philosophy, however. League ranked play is not the place to learn from a much stronger player - play outside of league ranked play if that’s what you want. As many hours as this game takes to play, a tier M really doesn’t need to be messing around with 2’s and 3’s, frankly there’s such a huge difference in ability they’re not even competitive games. League ranked play is intended for competitive play

I’ve never had ANYONE else pipe up and volunteer to handle all these calculations, updates, and rankings, so until that happens, my system stands.

So much talk of an ELO system or something else. Nothing keeps someone from doing a beta in the background. If someone is that interested in an alternative and thinks its that much better, than take the time and implement it and we can look at things a year from now.

It’s a very good idea. It’s fully possible to do an alternative ranking-system that’s inofficial, just for comparison. Takes a bit of time and effort of course, but could well be worth it.

Well that is exactly what I am going to do. While I have not earned the title of “Big 3” here yet I can assure you I am a world class player. I will be hosting a Coach’s game with @trulpen. I will make the moves for one side and with EVERYONE’s input trulpen will make the moves for the other side. Since he is making the moves he will have final decision making power but he will be allowed to have everyone’s input before he goes. As each Turn is taken we will discuss and critique each move; mine included. Might even critique the moves before our plays; that might work out better. Not sure yet.
