I was curious if UK would combine its African fleet with the Euro fleet to make a bigger threat in Europe, or reinforce the African fleet to force the Japanese out. I could see that the U.S. would have a much bigger amphib to invade Europe. But when I ran the battle calc, in all the possible targets, it was more than I prepared for. I only built 3 units in W. Germ. But I did build an AB in Cauc last turn, which allows me to transfer the massive Luftwaffe to W. Germ.

The AA curse strikes again. You SBR me continuously. I have damaged ICs all over Europe, but you rarely take a hit. I rarely SBR you, but I just took a hit. I didn’t want to increase my risk by using a 3rd bomber.

Check the number of times Allied and Axis bombers have been hit by AA.
Then check the number of times Axis submarines have won 1-on-1 battles with Allied DDs as opposed to both sinking or the DD winning. On each round, the probability of a sub winning are only 2 in 9, whereas that of both hitting are 1 in 9 and that of the DD hitting 2 in 9. In other words, the sub would be expected to win about 40%, the DD the same, and both going down about 20%. My sense is that the number of Axis sub victories wildly exceeds the expected outcome and probably more than makes up any Allied advantage in avoiding AA. -
Axis subs have had some good runs. Most of the DD and sub battles have included air, and long-term, my subs may have done slightly better than average. But a lost bomber and the failure to inflict IC damage in a 1-on-1 bomber and AA battle, is twice as expensive as a sunk DD, and far more common than a sub-DD duel.
