yeah your fleet has accomplished nothing, would have been much better served by 10 more mech on the russian front. Your air was always out of position as well as this is the first turn you have been able to use it to threaten the east. But that was the point of the heavy Atlantic opening. Force you to spend money in western europe and keep your forces locked up over there for the critical early turns.

yeah, that was ugly. wasnt sure you would go for it. gave you somewhat decent odds but still pretty risky as you were giving up ability to can open no matter what and clearing it wasnt good enough, you needed to take it outright. Dice certainly made it look like a bad decision in hindsight but either way I dont think it was a good call. I think you would have been able to break through next turn without issue. Losing the italian air meant I was able to block in Rostov instead of Bry which is nice as I dont have to worry about outright losing if the block fails.

I don’t agree.
I think needed to attack - I couldn’t leave my forces in Ukraine, at least the way I calculated it. So there wasn’t going to be a better opportunity later. I needed to go. Unless I miscalculated. I also don’t get why I needed to take the territory. I had tanks to claim Volgograd and Caucasus if I cleared the territory. So I didn’t need to do that.
Italians keep russia honest with can opener threat. Without that, you cant do much of anything, maybe you break through one turn but then never again.
If you break through and send all your mech to caucasus, then what? At this point there is so much UK air that I can easily deal with a small amount of mech (which is what you have). And if you take away the mech then you cant defend Ukr so you have to back up from there. So now you are in a situation where you have a non threatening force in caucasus, and then two german forces that are too small to do anything.
If you can get to Rostov and defend (using your air and italians) then at least you can take caucasus and vol for a few turns.
If you have to spend 2 arm to take cau and vol then the net ipc gain is small compared to the threat you lost. short term gain but limits your options for the rest of the game.
The way you force the russians out is to 1. have a decent sized force which you dont untill you get all that mech to Ukr 2. use your airforce. If you position so that all of your air can hit bry and other meaningful targets then I have to back up and you get through for nothing.
