Yep, I dont think there is anyway back for the axis. Definitely got unlucky at the wrong times and it cost you a lot of axis air in Europe. Would be interesting to see if the aggressive moves in the Med/Middle east would eventually pay off if you had kept a couple more air alive but it certainly let Russia be a tad more aggressive since it left you thin on the mainland.
