Hi,
I can’t find the old thread where people used tiny magnets to secure planes to carriers. So i got the magnets, and plan on a board on my wall with units with magnets on the bottom. What to use as the metal behind the board? Suggestions? I know they said in the thread something about sheet metel. Any other ideas?

@weddingsinger All I was trying to say is that parking your US fleet in SZ 6 is a recipe for disaster, when it can be in every space around SZ 6 and be much safer. You can however, park as many subs there as you want because 1) once you control that area, you can screen out destroyers who could come 2) he cant build ships in SZ 6 unless you threaten that build, so any destroyers that are built can be blown up before Japan’s next turn 3) the subs can’t be hit by either kamis or planes, whereas your surface fleet can usually be mopped up by Japan’s abundant air force returning home plus some kamis on the carriers to defeat the air support

Yes, that’s the way to do it: roll 1 die @3. Ruling out abominations as combat results (with rolling dice), that’s the goal of using LL. Win/loose due to strategy, not blessed/jinxed dice.
The downside of LL is that you can exactly calculate what you need. In big battles I don’t see this as a problem. Smaller ones however are stuff for debate. A Yughoslavia strafe can never go ‘wrong’ because Germany rolls too much hits. Russia can safely strafe every area with 6INF that has 2 axis units in it (or 12 if there are 3 axis units, etc.), moving large INFstacks around without risk of actually taking the area.

Well, because it takes awhile to be effective in europe, people generally lean toward fast results in the pacific. I do too.

Don’t get me twisted, I still drop some dds and carriers fighter stuffs in the atlantic. but I do not buy ground forces for it, since brazil has 3 inf and you start with some mech and tonks and an artillery. 2-4 trans is all you need.

after that dds and carriers to protect UK transports so he can get drops going sooner… that is the way to go.

Depends on how the pacific is going really. I mean you do have to stop japan from winning the game. A good Japan player is not a pushover… you either invest now or wait till japan has all of asia and is poised to take hawaii for the win…

people rather invest sooner than later so it don’t come to that.

also it is true, a good japan player will not be anywhere near hawaii. so you buy, then move to hawaii, then move to anzac, then you can threaten japan’s fleet…

in other words your first round buy is critical for the pacific campaign.

where as your first round buy in the atlantic, generally is not enough to survive the luffwaffe.

One reason to use them on land would be to take FRA, WFR, and SFR all at once … but it probably doesn’t outweigh the strategic advantage of sinking an extra SZ of Allied ships.

Though you have me thinking now about how many land units you can safely free up (i.e. start moving toward Russia early) by using significant air over Paris and how much difference that would make against the USSR. This would only make sense if you only do Sea Lion opportunistically and you plan an early Barbarossa.

Yes, we have yet to run out of the blue pieces for Italy. Italy might run out of aircraft if you bought lots of them, but otherwise one set is fine.

I have been thinking about adding the Japanese from A&AP for the Russians(they’re red) but there’s no mech/CA/or Tac bombers.

I also have been thinking of using the Russians from A&AE, they are more red then the new ones. Still no mechs or Tac bombers:(

Well, i now have more than 25 games of G40 Alpha +2 completed, and i NEVER, EVER got the chance to use Kamis… Not once !
My opponents always send just transports and men to capture islands that would allow kamis, or if the sz are defended, they send just subs and planes, or when they finally threaten to invade sz6, they have such a large fleet that the best move for Japan is to leave sz6(leaving just 1 or 2dd doesn’t work since they will once again send just ss and planes during CM, then move the rest of their fleet on NCM).

Kamis can’t shoot at subs, transports and planes…So i’m waiting for the day one of my opponents will attack sz6 with not enough ships and planes so i can stay and fight and finally use Kamis !..

I am putting this in the “Bad Ideas” category unfortunately.

Now if True Neutrals only were continent specific in regards to how they change over… or Mongolia was Pro Comintern/Allies… I would foam at the mouth.
