I went when I was really young. I think I mainly visited resorts and amusement parks.

I was thinking in when he saved Spanish democracy in 23-F (1981) coup of state, but this other also is good :-D

I called “Canada” as one of them. I have extensively travelled both nations, and aside from the money and the stereotypes, there is much that is interchangeable about them.
From Language to Media to Food to Shopping to City development to Education, there are many similarities. These two have a massive trading relationship - one of the greatest pair for years. We have the longest shared border in the world with remarkably few problems about it (at least very few reported problems or disputes).
The take on our politics is real in fact, however in practice we have a lot of similarities. Despite the fact that Queen Elizabeth (and by proxy the Governor General) is our head-of-state, the GG is actually handpicked by the Prime Minister who serves with much the same responsibilities and power as the President of the US. Our Parliament functions much as the US House of Rep’s, and we have a Senate which is a weak shadow of the US Senate.
With the exception of Quebec, we both subscribe to the common-law system (as opposed to the civil law).
Finally our cultures are nearly identical. Americans are utterly unable to discern between American and Canadian comics, actors, musicians and are buying more and more into our television shows, movies, and music - as we have bought into American culture for decades. We also have similar enjoyment of many of the same sports teams with both US and Canadian hockey, baseball and basketball teams in the same leagues. -
Yeah, well, if you want to count that stuf, I guess…

Yep - pretty busy! Plus I’ve been working my a$$ off lately. We are building a new house and my baby has expensive tastes.

UK and Israel took the win

aside from “panty vending machines” - i havn’t noticed any defenses for Israel or UK as “closest to the US”. I guess the answers came depending on how one read the question . . . .

lol, probably alot of voting by people that haven’t been to any of the places on the list.

I would think UK would be #1, for very obvious reasons. I’d think Israel would be maybe #3 behind Canada, if not 4 or 5.
But then again, what do I know?

you mean because of the Iraq war thing?
-
Well…I guess you could say that. Our closest ally or whatever (even though that would/would have been France). Many ideas came from, we battled it out, made up…etc.,etc.
The stance on the Iraq war just kinda mirrors that old relationship.
