    I think it’s a common mistake German players make when they go and sweep Norway, taking extremely valuable attention away from the Russian campaign (assuming Russians aren’t already pinned down and weak). I pretty much never see anything good come out of a Norway sweep (or normandy as well), unless it is when the allies have just barely taken it and it’s a relatively costless sweep.

    I think I still have trouble with axis strategy at this level and perhaps with the need to be more singleminded about what the focus should be on early. I suspect here that I made the mistakes earlier in dividing German attention too much. I’ve found with more mid level players that holding Gibraltar has been quite effective. It makes Italy more dangerous and can mess with the atlantic threat against Germany, which then allows Germany to take Russia.  But against both you and Karl it’s backfired, and I pay for not being more singleminded.

    I knew that I if I took Norway, the Soviets would push in. But i felt that if I didn’t, I would only be able to delay the Soviets a turn or two and would have a more substantial problem on the atlantic side. Anyway, every game is good experience.
