@Curtmungus your honor of being more famous than me is quite deserved. I salute you.
I has snow!

Just to prove I can see the future, I am predicting that Spring will begin precisely at 12:00AM on March 21st 2008.
Anyone care to argue?
-
I will.
Spring officially begins with the Vernal Equinox.
That occurs this year on March 20 at 5:48 UT (Greenwich Mean)
-
Switch just owned the shit out of you Jen. So much for predicting the future.
-
Not according to the calendars printed. The calenders all list spring on the 21st of March.
-
@M36:
Switch just owned the sh*t out of you Jen. So much for predicting the future.
Yeah and that is assuming you even know what the Spring Equinox is???
GG
-
Sure. The Equinox is when all the women and all the men of the village go have an orgy all night and no one can be turned down for sex, right?
-
Jen, I was asking M36 to see if he knew… And I think what you are referring to is popularly known as Woodstock '69…
GG

Calendars typically show the first FULL day of Spring. But Spring itself is defined as begining with the Vernal Equinox.
As for the sex thing…
That is more often a good Eclectic Neo-Pagan gathering for Beltain (May 1st). So you are off by 1 in your Sabbat sequence on the orgy :-PThe Wheel of the Year:
Samhuin: October 31
Yule: approximately December 21
Imbolgc: February 2
Ostara: approximately March 21
Beltain: May 1 (Popularly portrayed as a sex holiday, though in reality to a lesser extent…)
Litha: approximately June 21
Lughnasadh: August 1 (generally the best “sex” holiday at a festival)
Mabon: approximately September 21 (another darn fine festival for getting laid) -

Yea, but I was born 8 years too late to even witness Summer of 69. 26 years too late to legally participate in it! (8 years + 18 years of life.)
And Switch, it’s meant as humor.
Anyway, the first FULL day of Spring then. Whatever. My calendar says March 21st. I go by my calendar, it’s government approved thus it must be 100% accurate and for my best interest! (It’s an Air Force calendar, thus, Government approved!)
-
Well, the Air Force (much as it pains me to say it) is TECHNICALLY WRONG!
(I am going to go cry after saying that…)

Technically, or literally?
:P (Hey, I like my desk blotter/air force calendar, it has a pretty F-22 on it and that ADORABLE new logo! I could cuddle with that all night! But then, the Air Force always was the cute and cuddly branch of the military. :) )
-
Yeah, I was going to say all the hippies around here celebrate Beltane as orgy time. Seems more like a fad than what was originally intended of that holiday.
-
Well Switch, I’ve got you beat. NC had snow in January. Mississippi has 5" of snow in March. Freakin’ MARCH! I should be wearing shorts in March.
For the record this is how the week has gone down here:
Sunday: 70’s
Monday and Tuesday: 40’s and below freezing at night.
Wednesday: 70’s again.
Thursday: back to below freezing
Friday: A white ChristmasWhatever you guys are doing to screw with the weather, just cut it out. I left my snow shovel and the rock salt back in Chicago for a reason.
-
Well, NC is FINALLY getting some rain… Raleigh’s reservoir is up like 3 feet this week… from 90 days of water, to over 200 days worth of water.
As for snow… last weekend I went to Pennsylvania (Duncansville, PA) for my mother’s retirement party. I had the “pleasure” of shoveling out her parking space while I was there… they had 6" of fresh snow the morning Angel and I arrived…
-
I remember those days. If you were in a hurry it was brush the lights, windows and the door handle dropping snow bombs on the people driving behind you all the way to work.
-
Global temperature’s cooled a lot last year, and the trend the past few years has been cooler the normal. Hell, they had snow in Baghdad this year and China’s been dealing with record snow falls (same as the American Mid-West and other parts.)
It’s almost like God said: “Oh yea, Al? You think YOU are in control of the weather!? Let’s just see about that, shall we!” Though, honestly, I think God loves it when man says they understand something or has made something so powerful no one else can destroy it, ie Titanic. But that’s just me.
Anyway, Chicago routinely gets 20% of its snow fall after March 1st. Since we are up over 50 inches this year, and the record is 57 inches, that means we’ll break Chicago’s all time record for snow this year, probably. (By 3 inches, assuming 20% more based on 50 already received.)
-
Lousy Smarch weather.
-
Nice try Commander. you can’t make a veiled attempt at debunking global warming that I can’t see through. The planet is still getting hotter. It just doesn’t mean that the weather will stop fluctuating or areas won’t have record heat or cold. Record snowfall doesn’t prove the earth is cooling any more than the heat wave in Memphis that topped out at 107 at my house last summer proves that it is rapidly heating up. The planet doesn’t work that fast.

No snow, but enough wind yesterday to knock out my power.
I have a yard full of limbs, and about 300 posts on here to catch up on after yesterday…
http://www.wral.com/weather/story/2544756/
Not a huge event, but it was enough to ruin my plans for yesterday :-(
-
Yeah, I got my weekend plans for a cabin retreat ruined by a “blizzard.” It only ended up giving us about 4 or 5 inches, at most. And by the time Sunday rolled around (2 days later) it had mostly melted. Damn it all.
