@Curtmungus your honor of being more famous than me is quite deserved. I salute you.
I has snow!

Jen, I was asking M36 to see if he knew… And I think what you are referring to is popularly known as Woodstock '69…

Calendars typically show the first FULL day of Spring. But Spring itself is defined as begining with the Vernal Equinox.
As for the sex thing…
That is more often a good Eclectic Neo-Pagan gathering for Beltain (May 1st). So you are off by 1 in your Sabbat sequence on the orgy :-PThe Wheel of the Year:
Samhuin: October 31
Yule: approximately December 21
Imbolgc: February 2
Ostara: approximately March 21
Beltain: May 1 (Popularly portrayed as a sex holiday, though in reality to a lesser extent…)
Litha: approximately June 21
Lughnasadh: August 1 (generally the best “sex” holiday at a festival)
Mabon: approximately September 21 (another darn fine festival for getting laid) -

Yea, but I was born 8 years too late to even witness Summer of 69. 26 years too late to legally participate in it! (8 years + 18 years of life.)
And Switch, it’s meant as humor.
Anyway, the first FULL day of Spring then. Whatever. My calendar says March 21st. I go by my calendar, it’s government approved thus it must be 100% accurate and for my best interest! (It’s an Air Force calendar, thus, Government approved!)
-
Well, the Air Force (much as it pains me to say it) is TECHNICALLY WRONG!
(I am going to go cry after saying that…)

Technically, or literally?
:P (Hey, I like my desk blotter/air force calendar, it has a pretty F-22 on it and that ADORABLE new logo! I could cuddle with that all night! But then, the Air Force always was the cute and cuddly branch of the military. :) )

Yeah, I was going to say all the hippies around here celebrate Beltane as orgy time. Seems more like a fad than what was originally intended of that holiday.
-
Well Switch, I’ve got you beat. NC had snow in January. Mississippi has 5" of snow in March. Freakin’ MARCH! I should be wearing shorts in March.
For the record this is how the week has gone down here:
Sunday: 70’s
Monday and Tuesday: 40’s and below freezing at night.
Wednesday: 70’s again.
Thursday: back to below freezing
Friday: A white ChristmasWhatever you guys are doing to screw with the weather, just cut it out. I left my snow shovel and the rock salt back in Chicago for a reason.
-
Well, NC is FINALLY getting some rain… Raleigh’s reservoir is up like 3 feet this week… from 90 days of water, to over 200 days worth of water.
As for snow… last weekend I went to Pennsylvania (Duncansville, PA) for my mother’s retirement party. I had the “pleasure” of shoveling out her parking space while I was there… they had 6" of fresh snow the morning Angel and I arrived…
-
I remember those days. If you were in a hurry it was brush the lights, windows and the door handle dropping snow bombs on the people driving behind you all the way to work.

Global temperature’s cooled a lot last year, and the trend the past few years has been cooler the normal. Hell, they had snow in Baghdad this year and China’s been dealing with record snow falls (same as the American Mid-West and other parts.)
It’s almost like God said: “Oh yea, Al? You think YOU are in control of the weather!? Let’s just see about that, shall we!” Though, honestly, I think God loves it when man says they understand something or has made something so powerful no one else can destroy it, ie Titanic. But that’s just me.
Anyway, Chicago routinely gets 20% of its snow fall after March 1st. Since we are up over 50 inches this year, and the record is 57 inches, that means we’ll break Chicago’s all time record for snow this year, probably. (By 3 inches, assuming 20% more based on 50 already received.)

Lousy Smarch weather.

Nice try Commander. you can’t make a veiled attempt at debunking global warming that I can’t see through. The planet is still getting hotter. It just doesn’t mean that the weather will stop fluctuating or areas won’t have record heat or cold. Record snowfall doesn’t prove the earth is cooling any more than the heat wave in Memphis that topped out at 107 at my house last summer proves that it is rapidly heating up. The planet doesn’t work that fast.
-
No snow, but enough wind yesterday to knock out my power.
I have a yard full of limbs, and about 300 posts on here to catch up on after yesterday…
http://www.wral.com/weather/story/2544756/
Not a huge event, but it was enough to ruin my plans for yesterday :-(
-
Yeah, I got my weekend plans for a cabin retreat ruined by a “blizzard.” It only ended up giving us about 4 or 5 inches, at most. And by the time Sunday rolled around (2 days later) it had mostly melted. Damn it all.

Global warming is so debunked that the majority of free scientists don’t support it anymore. At least MAN MADE global warming.
This year was just icing on the cake. Record snows all over the globe. Record ice growth in Antartica. Reports that polar bear populations are at record highs in their entire history. Snow in parts of the globe that almost NEVER get snow. And, to top it off, the planetary temperature cooled by almost a whole degree centigrade (which is in excess of the 0.4 degree of rise that worried Al Gore.)

Really? I suppose that the countries of the world have completely abandoned their efforts to cut carbon emmissions because the majority of free scientists(as opposed to enslaved scientists?) don’t support global warming? The Commander has spoken. It is so.
Neither you nor I are meteorological scientists and we can both cite numerous examples of propaganda with regard to “man made or not man made” global warming but we do have global temperature data which is, of course, unbiased. http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/ Simply data. Unless you can prove that NASA is the last desperate bastion of your so called “eco-terrorists” then I will assume that we all agree that the data is unbiased. And you can interpret that data however you wish.
I have chosen to interpret that data as the planet getting hotter because, well, it is( you will note that the global annual mean surface air temperatures fluctuate yet the TREND is that the planet is heating up).
You have chosen to interpret that data as despite 2007 being the 3rd hottest year on record AND despite it being hotter than the year before, because the last 2 months have been unusually cool the planet is obviously getting colder. When attempting to debunk a scientific claim it is important to use the smallest sample size to back your claims and 2 months out of 1 year is about as small as you can get.
Also, your claim that the planetary temperature has dropped by an entire degree makes no sense seeing as how the global annual mean temperatures for the period from 1880 to 2008 have grown by slightly less that 1 degree centigrade. The only thing I can think of is that you are saying the monthly temperature for January 2008 is 1 degree lower than the monthly temperature for January 2007 but that is just dissecting data to meet your needs.
If you would like to debate man made versus non-man made global warming, we can do that. I can’t prove anything but I have my suspicions.
If you look at the graph for the Annual Mean Temperature Change for Hemispheres you’ll note that the temperature increases in the northern hemisphere(where the majority of the worlds industry is located) are more than double over the southern hemisphere.
If you also go back to the Global Annual Mean Surface Air Temperature Change graph you’ll note that the increases in planetary temperature spiked between 1937 and 1945 that wasn’t matched again until the 1980’s. Now what was it that happened between 37’ and 45’ that could have spiked the planetary temperature so drastically? Could it have been a massive industrialization effort around the world due to an event that currently slips my mind?
Again, those two points don’t prove anything, but they are interesting to note.
-
Yea, and in 1975 the global mean temperatures were trending colder and we were all going to freeze to death.
Funny how you will totally disregard all the evidence to support your religion and your faith in the almighty profit Al Gore, isn’t it?
Nations are being FORCED against reason and common sense, to worry about carbon emissions because of this unmoral religion that’s sprung up. This is much akin to Kings being forced to give fealty to the Pope in the middle ages.
However, most reasonable scientists with studies into global warming do not think the planet is warming up faster then normal nor that it will ever get above a reasonable fluctuation in temperature based on solar emissions. The rest of the reasonable and trained scientists who actually know what they are talking about think global warming is the biggest hoax ever thrust on the human race.
You know who support it? Mostly scientists who do not study global warming. Anyone who opposes them were kicked off the climate change committees because they had valid arguments like the models disregarding interstellar radiation, solar emissions, increased tectonic activity, etc.
Less then 1000 years ago the planet was much warmer then it is today. And we’re cooling off now! There were no effects from man made carbon emissions then because there were no man made carbon emissions! Tens of thousands of years ago the entire planet was covered in ice.

the dreyfuss girl from seinfeld did the speech at my brothers graduation from northwestern. an ultra left campus. she basically told the crowd to line up afterwards and buy lightbulbs that she brought. she brought thousands. i checked and she is highly invested in the company that makes them.
al gore has millions invested in green tech companies. he stands to make 10’s of millions of dollars if all goes well and people keep buying them. hell, they made our regular bulbs ILLEGAL after 2009.
to put it simply. create a bonfire. sit by it. i will put you closer to it and then also throw a lot more wood on to make it hotter. a global warming person would try to find another way to explain why you are getting hotter. rather than b/c the bonfire is hotter and you are closer to it.

Lol.
Not only will I disregard your evidence and argument, I’ll make ridiculous claims myself and not cite any evidence of my own. And knock religions while I’m at it.
