Yes, luck runs both ways. I had a very opportune pair of AA snake eyes in a 1940 BM3 game with another player about ten days ago. He built for Sea Lion and bombed London in prep. My AA shot down both bombers. It reduced his odds of successfully invading the next turn, from very high to above average. He tried and lost and conceded the game. I don’t mind taking an AA hit after successfully bombing 4 or 5 times to cover the cost of the bomber, but not on the first try.

The naval battle in Soviet F.E. wasn’t quite Midway, but I’ll take it. But the AA curse continues. Again, a solo Amer bomberr is shot down in Stalin. And 3 Amer bombers (attack 12) inflict only 1 hit on 2 Ger mech (defense 4), which both hit. So I lost 3 bombers and only hit 1 unit, for net TUV - 32. The odds of surviving are’t being helped by bad dice.

I intended to test out buying an IC upgrade for Egypt by going thru the turn without combat to see if it worked. But I forgot and ended up doing combat and NCM. I knew the terr had to be originally owned, but when I couldn’t place it, I read that it must be a value of 3 terr. The only way for the allies to hold on is to produce a lot more ground units in the mideast. A minor IC in Persia doesn’t add enough units and is not defensible once the Axis take N. Persia. Please allow me to exchange the Brit upgrade purchase to a tt, inf and art in S. Afr and a mech in Egypt, with 2 cash left over. A bigger IC in Egypt was my last hope. This is hopeless.

This N. Pac naval sideshow is getting out of control. Jpn lost attack on American dd & tt. U.S. added another dd to stop an attack since Jpn planes couldn’t reach. But that made bigger target, so Jpn used cv to reach. This time, Jpn won attack with no losses. Now U.S. can’t pass up chance to sink the cv. But must divert substantial assets to sink it and the sub, and risk taking losses. The Ger foray into the North Sea and shifting the bomber squad north poses other problems for the Allies. The bombers in Rostov means that reinforcements by sea would be suicidal for Bri tts.

The loss of the American bombers in Rus previously, meant that the U.S. subs had to attack the Ita dd without air support. I scrambled the ftrs, since they could not be hit. I could have waited to be attacked, at lower value for the Italian ftrs, but my subs would have defended at 1. Didn’t want to risk not sinking the dd on round 1. As it turned out, 1 sub did roll a 1, and the ftrs rolled 2-4’s. So I would have been better off waiting to be attacked, if the dice were the same. I retreated the subs, but edited back to keep them, as the battle could not continue without a dd. In the continuing saga of the N. Pac, the U.S. sank the Jpn by Alaska without any losses. U.S. sub hit the Jpn cv and planes gave another hit. I chose the cv to take the second hit, since the the US. would have retreated and the ftr would have crashed anyway. The blocker dd in sz6 did sink my sub and was also sunk. And the AA curse in Stalin continues, a solo bomber was hit. That’s 3 for 4 hit at 1/6 odds.
