    I should have landed the 4 US bombers in Iraq instead of Cau.  But bat calc often improves odds if adding just a few units.  Ger had to attack this turn, with 7 Brit mobile and 5 US figs coming.


  • You shouldn’t have attacked with Amy of them amd put all 8 there. He had to attack this turn amd you needed to hold him off as long as poss. That first round was a killer .

    Actually, Iraq was dangerous for allies, as Ger bombers from S. Italy and Stalin could attack and return to a safe landing in Stalin.  Ger could have destroyed the Brit troops and U.S. bombers and still had half its bombers left.  Without the Brit reinforcements, Ger could still have attacked Cau the next turn with its mech reinforcements.  Altho the U.S. ftrs from Libya would have arrived.  The 2 U.S. bombers from London couldn’t reach Iraq even if they didn’t bomb Italy.

    AA are always a bloody nightmare Ed. It is amazing how often your bombers get shot down. Snake eyes are particularly galling - particularly if the snake in question is poly-optical! It may be that your head remembers the bad news more than the good.

    Yes, luck runs both ways.  I had a very opportune pair of AA snake eyes in a 1940 BM3 game with another player about ten days ago.  He built for Sea Lion and bombed London in prep.  My AA shot down both bombers.  It reduced his odds of successfully invading the next turn, from very high to above average.  He tried and lost and conceded the game.  I don’t mind taking an AA hit after successfully bombing 4 or 5 times to cover the cost of the bomber, but not on the first try.

    The naval battle in Soviet F.E. wasn’t quite Midway, but I’ll take it.  But the AA curse continues.  Again, a solo Amer bomberr is shot down in Stalin.  And 3 Amer bombers (attack 12) inflict only 1 hit on 2 Ger mech (defense 4), which both hit.  So I lost 3 bombers and only hit 1 unit, for net TUV - 32.  The odds of surviving are’t being helped by bad dice.

    I intended to test out buying an IC upgrade for Egypt by going thru the turn without combat to see if it worked. But I forgot and ended up doing combat and NCM.  I knew the terr had to be originally owned, but when I couldn’t place it, I read that it must be a value of 3 terr.  The only way for the allies to hold on is to produce a lot more ground units in the mideast.  A minor IC in Persia doesn’t add enough units and is not defensible once the Axis take N. Persia.  Please allow me to exchange the Brit upgrade purchase to a tt, inf and art in S. Afr and a mech in Egypt, with 2 cash left over.  A bigger IC in Egypt was my last hope.  This is hopeless.
