Air Base & Naval Bases (HBG, Shapeways?)
-
Looks great!…Thanks!
-
I used Litko for my airbase and naval yards. Big Blue anchors for naval yards and an airport tower for my airbases… They stand out and are impossible to miss. Just have to glue them together when you get them and let them set a while and you are good to go. Since I did the switch to these there are no longer complaints that they didn’t see them. Look great too! Hope this helps!

Got the Prototypes in. Will need to figure price
-
Some more pics. Sizes are good
-
Nice! I was just wondering today if these were ready yet :)
-
it may be a few weeks. This was the first print. Shapeways can be unpredictable when it comes to printing. Next print request they may refuse because of thickness or size. It will have to create a tree so i can get the cost down. Which sometimes pose some problems with printing. I will sure let you all know asap.

This airport with hanger is now on my shapeway store. Combat Miniatures check it out currently you’re able to only buy singles however I’m in the works of getting a tree created so you can buy multiples and bring the price down
-
Awesome! Looks like someone else also just made some air bases as well? I don’t think they were there before?

DiStefano’s storefront on Shapeways is at www.shapeways.com/shops/war-game-miniatures.
You can get your hands on his airport minis in twelve packs: www.shapeways.com/product/B86CD2AK2/1-285-airport-tower-w-hanger-x12?optionId=64684248 and in singles: www.shapeways.com/product/XLLQBSM4Y/1-285-airport-tower-w-hanger?optionId=64588365.
And now you know.

Just placed my order! Thanks again for doing this!
-
Hi we use houses from Monopoly games blue for naval base and green for air bases very easy to spot
-
Thanks guys for the support. Currently trying to come up with some Navel Base designs.

Naval Yard Concept
-
Nice
-
I like that. Is it a shipyard or a naval base? What are the dimensions? I ask because the shipyards that I have are twice as big as I need them to be and I ended up cutting them in half which makes them look unnatural now.
-
The foot print won’t be much larger then the AirPort w/ Hanger. This could be a Ship Yard or Naval Base. Not sure how to differentiate between the two. Unless I remove the Oil Tank and insert a Spot for an AA gun, similar to the one on top of my Sub Pen. That may be cool. However, an AA base is larger then the Oil Tank. Will play around with it.

I’m not sure of the best way to translate the difference into a sculpt design, but I’d say that even though some shipyards and some naval bases may have some facilities in common, the fundamental characteristic of a shipyard is that it has the ability to build and launch ships. A big naval base would typically have some capacity to complete the fitting-out of a new ship, or repair an existing ship, and perhaps might even able to overhaul substantially an existing ship, but it generally wouldn’t be able to construct and launch a new one. The main purpose of a naval base is to support operational ships: giving them a safe harbour in between missions; providing them with fuel, ammunition and other stores; providing the crews with rest and recreation and training facilities; and so forth.

The key difference between Ship Yards and Naval Bases that aren’t Ship Yards - dry docks. Put a (small) dry dock on your Naval Base, where the pier is now - boom, Ship Yard.
My 2 IPCs, anyways.

I’m looking for something with a smaller footprint for naval bases/ports.
This could work. Little pricey but have requested perhaps more to an order to get the per unit price down.
If this was paired with an fuel tank, it could make for a good shipyard.
