Seriously, GG, can you give us a little introduction, especially for those of us who have been on this site for months, but have seen, like, 3 posts from you that whole time?  Do you play this game or are you just Mr. Jensen’s hired help?  Just curious . . . :|

That’s exactly my point – he musta done all his posting in, like 2004 or something – I NEVER see him post around here . . .

    I’m sorry I haven’t been around… Intro?

I am not hired help, and I love Axis and Allies. I tend to enjoy the “spokesperson” approach if you want to call it that. But to a group that has made a website the best of it’s kind out there, that isn’t hard, it comes naturally.

I joined this site in Aug. 2003 and learned most of what I know about the game from here. I joined the Moderating Team in Jan. 2006, when I had around 2000 posts. At the time I was still in High School so my contribution to the team was more steady. I have contributed to the main site, and hope to put more there in the future. At the end of the year though, I moved, and am now getting ready for College and I am starting a business, so that has drained my time. It has to the point where at most I was just moving threads in out of place forums.

But I’m trying to get more involved… Like this thread… I’m glad you guys who have joined in the last year have taken that initiative to keep the site thriving. When PD was active we had much content there and limited content elsewhere, but everyone coming in has stepped up and brought the axis and allies back into the forums as well as the older members. Lets keep this rolling, and the content out.

What I mean by limiting content on Political matters is not directly avoiding topics of that nature. IF you know what you are going to post is going to start a debate that ventures into the realms of politics, don’t start it…

I think the problem wasn’t PD itself, but the hate and lack of judgment that it tends to bring out in certain people. It seems to me that there were really only about 2-3 people (who shall remain nameless) who made PD toxic and full of personal attacks. But how do you moderate that? I for one am not missing PD anyway, this site is enough of a time-sucker without it.

  • Instead of political arguments, one can have a political avatar…

The biggest problem I had with PD forums was that we had people who did nothing but post in PD.  We still have a few that try to conceal politically motivated threads on the GD forums, but we’re getting good at pointing them out and then flaring them to the point someone has to lock it. :P

We’re supposed to be an Axis and Allies site first, maybe a sprinkling of other stuff.  At least that’s the way I view it!

  • I really did want to try to let the DOW thread run a bit (and I did let it run a few days) to see if we could have a discussion about a non-A&A serious topic and not get mired in the type of discussion that led to the removal of PD.

    It didn’t work.

So… we get transformers and laptops in GD… and a heck of a lot of activity in the GAME threads.

Heck, if you don;t post a move in a game thread within 24 hours, you have to go to page 2 to find your game… that is a heck of a lot of activity!  And all of it is “on topic” :-)

I also have to be honest… if PD was restored tomorrow, I would have to resign as PD mod.  I have come to really enjoy the extra time with Angel that had slowly and steadily been devoured by PD.  I also get to spend more time GAMING (3 active games, one on hold awaiting my game board, and one scheduled and awaiting a bid).

I actually think the gaming is more productive than PD ever was  :-D

Problem was, Switch, the DOW thread started as a political topic.  Some people may not have seen that right off, which is kinda why I went off the deep end to demonstrate exactly how it was a very politically motivated thread (which wasn’t too hard, considering the title of the thread and the wording used, actually.)

It became a non-political thread when we started talking about time periods from the early 90s to today and outside influences outside of the market such as bankruptcies and how America went from being the world’s largest crude oil exporter to the worlds largest crude oil importer in a matter of 50 years.

But hey, outside of that, I take umbrage that you would call transformers trivial!  GI Joe, Transformers, My Little Pony and Care Bears ROCK!

  • I am glad you stopped where you did.

If you had mentioned He-man and She-ra I may have retched on my keyboard and been offline for days :-P

He-Man, She-Ra, Dungeons and Dragons and a few others I wasn’t allowed to watch.  They were “satanic.”  The Girl Scouts were too religiously oppressive for my parents to let me join, but I couldn’t want frazzin cartoons because they said “I have the power” not “God has the power” and other such drivel.

So, GG, only one more question – when and where is the corporate retreat?  (and have you reserved my room yet?) :-D

“Villa Midea” in Croatia, Dalmatia, Brac island. Room 205. When you get there, ask the receptionist for ext 2944 and say Filone sent you. No worries, she’ll give you a key.

You neglected to give a date - or are you recruiting volunteers for the Croatian voluntary organ donor service?

Alas no. I love the organization, but the “no-cheese-eating” policy is lackluster. I will give you a date as soon as I can finalize details with Filone…
