Good game.
I’m well aware that it’s over
-
yeah even with the Japanese follow up, that fleet is doomed.
Please don’t post the result; I will post after Jan 1 for 2018.
Interested in a rematch, with same bid but flip sides?
-
I won’t post the result, don’t worry. We agreed it was for 2018.
Sure, I’d play again. Allies with +20 works for me.
If you don’t mind, I’d like to ask a few questions. If you don’t want to discuss your strategy, I totally understand, but I’m curious.
-
If I hadn’t missed that french destroyer who blocked the German fleet (Italy SB had killed him), and the Germans followed-up and destroyed the Brit fleet in the med, do you think it would have changed the final outcome? From my vantage point at least, that was the biggest issue I ran across (from things I didn’t expect / plan for).
-
Have you seen a similar strategy run before (Japan -> Europe VCs), and if so how did it do then? I developed my version of this a few years back, and hadn’t had the chance to test it against a good opponent before. I definitely learned lots of issues with it that I’ll have to work on.

Way back at the end of round 3 the french destroyer blocked you. It bought be time to build more fleet in the med, but I don’t think it would have made much difference if I had gone for ground units instead. UK can put a surprising number of mechs and fighters out of South Africa. If Germany owned the South France IC instead of Italy, then it might have been a different story. The strategy of building German fleet and sending it to the med is quite powerful IF Germany also has an IC on the coast (Yugo and Greece are alternatives, but South france IC is free).

Yes I have seen a few of these “hail mary” strategies, where the axis abandons one side of the world and goes for a FAST win on the other map. They can work (and they are fun!), but they rely heavily on surprise and they will usually only work once against a particular opponent. After that he will be on to you. They come in 6 varieties that I am familiar with:
- Japan takes India the sends the whole fleet toward Egypt and/or South Africa (which you did)
- Japan builds an “orange blob” that marches toward Stalingrad (which you also did)
- Japan sends its whole air force to Russia to SBR, stack, and can opener (you did this too at the end)
- Germany marches toward Moscow then goes south and makes a beeline for India (i recently did this one against Desert_Admiral)
- Germany builds carriers in med and goes through Suez and on to the Pacific (slow but VERY effective)
- Germany sends bombers to Pacific to do can openers (lower cost, still high reward)
I am not really a good opponent. There are many on this forum who crush me regularly, but its all part of the game.
Putting all 3 of those Japan hail marys together into 1 integrated strategy is pretty advanced, so well done! :-D -
so if you want a rematch for 2018 league, what would you like to have for your $20?
-
This might seem a bit familiar:
5 Russian artillery: Novgorod, Belarus, W. Ukraine, Ukraine, and Bryansk.
-
LOL ok on the way!
