I now think a similar idea could apply to Finland.

Sweden (not if the Axis are at war with the strict neutrals)
Use a battlecalc that has 100 sided dice. I think I will do a program like that.

Ya, you can tell how much thought energy I have for this game if I’m doing all of that, and trying to workout this 8 sided idea… but I really think converting to 8 sides can be something a lot of people could get on board with.
I have to say this is great IMO…
All of the “obsolete” units have been improved to a point that hopefully folks will now buy them…
Meaning cruisers and even battleships will hopefully be purchased with this new format…
Another way to look at it – units are in the stands in a baseball game right now (tanks, cruisers, battleships, etc.), but with this format ALL units should be in the playing field in terms of ROI…
Pretty cool…
Now…the question is…can we agree on a “standard” bid for the Allies at the start of a game…
I have heard a good idea that USA get’s two battleships at the start of the game…
Please comment on this and other ideas…

The only issue I see that remains is about AAA.
It is not a popular unit OOB. It cannot be more interesting if it is nerfed.
But I understand why it is nerfed.
So, one remaining options is to reduced cost to 3 IPCs…
But it was out of question per the original parameter of this thread.

No house rules or cost changes, it’s either gonna be a 1/8 or a 2/8 on the 8 sided system.

I voted 1/8. I think that’s fine. I think 2/8, or a 25% chance, is too much for OOB air unit costs for AAA dice.
On a side note, would you consider a 6 sided die just for the AAA?

Around 10% odds is very near historical rate of casualties per bombing mission.
This make @1 on D8 compelling for AAA.
My guess is that you will keep @1 and once tried with fellow players, you will decide to add something to improve AAA attractiveness.
Or play without buying AAA anymore, Cruiser has been there a few years and the game works even if it was a broken unit from an optimized purchaser POV.
The basic scale have to keep the bottom number for basic unit: @1.
AAA cannot be higher.

IMO, AAA is an half-baked unit.
At first, it was 6 IPCs then reduced to 5 IPCs to use this slot but this did not change things to make it popular.
The old AAguns were also rarely built because their was enough in set-up too.
But, this Flak 88 was a cool sculpt and was still an improvement to get each specific AAA sculpt for main powers.
Since it seems like the other units, you are more compelled to consider it same as other ground units.
But it is not the case. If AAA had remain grey or white and non-specific, no one would be bother to never purchase them.

Ok. Today I read that HBG uses a D12 but still uses a D6 when rolling SBR damage. I like your D8 HR idea and would gladly play it. Was just wondering if this could have been an area to still use a D6.
You can slightly modify SBR:
StB bombing damage to be 1D8.
Average: 1+8=9/2= 4.5 IPCs
(1D6+2= 8 damage max, anyway average 3+8=11/2= 5.5 IPCs )
TcB bombing damage to be 1D8 minus 2, minimum 1 dmg point.
Average: 1+1+1+2+3+4+5+6= 23/8= 2.875 IPCs
OOB TcB dmg avg: 3.5 IPCs
If IC’s AAA is @1 on D8 (12.5%), it is also reduced odds compared to OOB 16.7%.
So, it is fair to reduced average Strat bombing damage.
Convoy Raid: 1D8 roll: 1-4= 1-4 IPCs ; 5-8= 0 IPCs
50% odds of making damage.
Average dmg: 1+2+3+4+0+0+0+0= 10/8= 1.25 IPC
OOB Convoy 50% odds of making damage.
Average D6 dmg 1+2+3+0+0+0= 6/6 =1 IPC
