Unescorted transports can ignore subs as long as they are not in the sea zone that you are conducting an amphibious assault from. That’s when you need a warship to ignore the sub(s).
Factories build planes. Airbases are runways, hangars, fuel depots and ammunition storage. I’m not seeing your connection at all.

In the same vein, Drydock factories build naval units which are then based out of Naval yards which house docks, fuel and ammo depots and support buildings, but not manufacturing facilities.
If there had to be a historical mistake on the AAE game, I think leaving out the Aden naval base would be the one i’d choose (along with making Sierra Leone neutral… it doesn’t affect the game at all)
The one I’d choose is have the RN able to survive G1
