I voted for the RN fighting for Malta whatever. Understand that Malta was a vital part of the UK’s efforts to interrupt supplies to N Africa and so defend the Suez canal and thus the UK’s whole middle east position. I am presuming this was understood at the time - but that’s an assumption others may challenge.

Hey,
I was reading in another area on this site and heard that some made a 3’ by 8’ map and used a 400 point army, and used about half of the available space.
I think this is very good news. I was worried about units being stuck together like lobsters in a tank. Also given the fact that we will have three secular points to focus on will divide some confusion too. Plus our map will be bigger.
Due to the over exaggeration on the scale of the map I think we should push for as many units as possible. With the Armhem area I’m about finished just some minor fixing that I won’t get around to, till later this week. (D*** day job seriously cuts into my free time) I’ll assemble a 400 point army for that section alone with low costing troops and see if it looks to over crowded.
FOCUS OF THE WEEK: Let’s move onto Eindhoven.
OPASITION: The German 59th INF was there does any one know who else was?
BRIDGES: I see a bridge in Veghal in the far north of their section.
Another in St. Dedenrode
Was it the one in Son that was destroyed prior to arrival?
Were there only three?RANGE: Did 101st venture as far out as Helmond?
SUPRISES: Where there any unusual things (that I’m unaware of) that happened here that need to be considered to incorporate into the game?
I hope this week will be as productive as the last. Again that’s for all your help.

As far as surprises go, the Allies were unaware of Panzer units in the area that had recently been located there. Don’t forget the terrain, particularly Hell’s Highway. It was an uphill battle (not literally, just that tanks were sitting ducks on that road).
I don’t know how much of a role the Dutch Resistance played after the drop (besides helping with the river crossings of the British and Polish troops), but that may be another factor on the Allies side.
The bridge at Son was blown, I believe. The Veghel one was an alternative. Look it up though, I’m just going by memory.

I can’t get the d*** map pic I have to post. It says it’s can’t be any larger than 128 KB. Any one have any ideas let me know maybe I could e-mail it to someone and let them post it.

You could hotlink it here after hosting to another site.
Or, pull it into something like MS paint & resize it.
Here’s something you can try: http://home.cshore.com/bucwheat/iview.htm

There was a bridge at Best (Son alternate) and it was heavily fought over… I would incorporate that… There was not a very much opposition at Eindhoven except in the city by the 59th…
St. Edenrode is towards the south I believe only advanced on by the XXX Corps. Veghel was the farthest north that was landed on by the 101…

Lets try this.

Hey,
Sorry for the low budget map. At least this one fit. Each space there is 2†on the real on. I couldn’t fit the names of all the cities and villages so here they are.
4 L-M = Oosterbeck
3 T, 4 S-U, 5 S-U, 6 S-T = Arnhem
12 N = Eist
19&20 N-P = Nijmegen
21&22 S-T = Groesbeek HeightsI think that’s all of them. The Northern river is the Lower Rhine. The middle is the Waal River. The lower is the Maas River.
Remember this is only map one of two. The second half will start at line 25. Also I would like some ideas regarding placement of terrain such as hills and forests. On the real map the rivers and roads don’t look so boxy.
Let me know what you think.

Well I hope the Ghettoness of my map didn’t scare everyone away from this topic.
-LT04
-
it won’t… it does look odd, but I think I can manage the “understanding” of it. Sure its 100 meters per hex?
GG
-
No it isn’t. It’s 1,000 meters per space in real life. I didn’t want to make it all the way to scale it’s already 4’ by 8’.
-LT04
-
ah OK that makes sense… It looks good even though its confusing
GG
-
You could try using color filters in XL that would be a bit easier on the eyes.
-
Yeah I hope to finish the second half this week and I post both maps as one in color.
I’m still looking for ideas about how many points for each unit.
This next week I also want ideas about the rules.
-LT04
-
current points aren’t good?
also, do you want “polders” affecting movement…?
GG
-
GG,
What’s wrong with the current points?
What’s a “polders”
-LT04
-
The current points are fine to me… I thought you were going to change them…
Polders are the “lowlands” in Holland, the “flooded fields” that were the reason the XXX Corps had to use the roads to get up to Arnhem… And the Polders are everywhere in Holland…
GG
-
Do you think we could recreate this by putting river spaces along the roads? This way they have to follow the roads all the way to each objective city?
-LT04
-
its possible! or just make it a rule that they cannot move off road without making a movement roll, or if that is too complicated make them unable to move offroad…
GG
-
GG, I think I’ll just go with the movment role.
Sorry it’s taking so long. Life happened this week I’ll try harder to get it done this week.
