They ought to just re-release this game under a different title or sell an expansion pack for AA42SE with a new board, rules and Italian pieces. A price point similar to AA41 would do just fine.

The main Problem is, the game isn’t fun for every player, if you can only win as allies by almoust complete neglection of Japan. The Japanese Player will have a poor gaming experience. On the other hand, you won’t win the war in the pacific.
I recently invested loads of Russian troops, a UK factory in India and the US heavy into the pacific (1941 scenario) and didn’t come close to a win in the pacific and lost to europe. Eventough the Japanese player made a major mistake and i got lucky when he attackt some groundforces with mainly planes. The best I could achieve was a stall with Japan earning somewhat 50 IPC a turn (playing with NO).
While Germany on the other hand was playing extremely conservative, but finally crushed the USSR (rolling really good dice), so the US Invasion froce stationed in the atlantic.

Whats missing in this game?
I guess a industrial complex in India to start with could slow the japanese advance, while still saveing IPC for UK (doesn’t have to build one). This would make the game more challanging for the Japanese Player (otherwise there is no opponent on the continent) and gives the UK player more action on the pacific side of the board, while still able to build up some fleet to fight the Germans/Italians.

Just a quick tip to anybody on this:  Download the PDF, then right click and do 'Open With…" Photoshop.  It will open and be editable.

Also, I do a lot of graphic design… and you’d be surprised at how many people won’t or don’t understand to give you original PS or Illustrator files, but will send you PDFs.  Nice thing is, you can choose the DPI/PPI and color rendering (CMYK or RGB, etc.) that it opens with.

I’m thinking of doing this as well. For the sake of a bit of consistency in the rules between games.
And, I like the new rules, but I can’t justify purchasing this game when I already have AA50. They seem like the same level of game.
Btween the new 41, and G40
Plus AA50 gives you the option for tech and N.O.'s, as well as China and Italy.

So adopting some of the new rules into AA50 seems like the best of both worlds.

Bid insanely high.

The Allies have the advantage, simply because the Axis MUST succeed in reaching parity, or it’s doomed.

Chance is against the Axis.  No amount of reasonable bid can encourage me to inherit the “Risk of Chance”  or “Onus of Liability and Risk”.

As the allies, all you have to do is play prevent, and make sure -they- can’t win.  Time is on your side.

I’ve been lurking these forums for a bit and finally decided to join up. Anywho, just played the first A&A50 game in like 2 years a few weeks ago. Everyone went for techs. By the end of the game Japan had Radar, America had Heavy Bombers, and Russia had both Advance Artillery and war bonds.

We ended the game on German 4 when they took Moscow. America only used Heavy Bombers once, likewise Japan only used Radar once(same combat), and Russia despite having two techs still got crushed by combined German/Japan Moscow rush.

So the question is, in the long run are the techs worth the investment?

Personally I like having the options though I don’t normally bother are only buy like one tech dice a game. Still when people do get them it can have a great impact in some games, I’ve seen a G2 Sea lion a couple of times because of techs. From reading the forums most seem to favor ignoring them, but I just wanted to get a few options and see how most felt.

Even a lone transport can

In AA50, enemy subs and transports can be completely ignored, as long as you don’t engage any of them.

(If you attack a sub/transport combo with a fighter and also try to land there amphibiously, the sub can sink your transport.  You can’t pick and choose what to ignore within a single zone)

I thought the secret in 42, was to maintain a navy in the baltic?
