You totally had me on the European Theatre and I was thinking all the time why are you not attacking me.
The game was basically lost for Axis Germany when it lost his Bmbrs and did not go for your capitol.
I have to say that you left Moscow wide open and it was tempting.
Decided to wear you down, wich had not the effect I was looking for.
After that you did pretty good with Russia and you could have easily knocked Germany out.

Thanks, Cyanight. You make excellent points  No question I did blow my top there somewhat. It’s pretty cool that you were able to defeat a guy of Mr. Roboto’s skill level even after losing in France G1.

Interestingly, we both pursued almost the exact same attack plan with Germany.  I would note, however, that all my battles were pretty much disasters:  I got wiped out in S France, too, and didn’t take it, either; I got wiped out in sz 106 and still left UK with a transport, and I took a heavy beatin’ in sz 111 while hardly making a dent in the UK’s fleet. Throw that in with the complete debacle in France and I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry  :-D

Nonetheless, it’s poor form to quit like that.  The best way to learn how to deal with adversity is to actually play it out, because as you’ve noted, it can be done.  So your advice is well appreciated.  :-)

Thx for the game, Majikforce! Was a good one, you gave it everything, and I acknowledge that I had a lot of luck in quite a few of those smaller Asian land battles, playing an important role there. I think it could have gone the other way in Asia relatively easy with more normal die for you.

About Egypt, I didnt mean that you just got lucky, you had to attack at that stage, and one in four is nothing I can really complain about when you win. You would not attack in a normal situation, so if I give you this “big” a chance, its my own fault.

Hm, neutral crush, I needed Spain as a base, cant say I plan for that in every Ally game. One probably should? I think it just happened that I had a chance on Turkey at the same time.

As for Japan, I was sort of glad when you went west with the navy. It was going to be trapped, eventually. I dont know the right answer, but I would probably have stayed and try as much interruption as possible. The German navy, cant remember now but you maybe could have blocked me longer from raching Denmark and Norway? Where did I defeat it, after taking Denmark? That was free reign, after that.

Without looking at history, I really cant say where you lost the game, I was totally misjudging Moscow and was more than surprised that I lost it so quickly. My failed attempt on Novgorod was key in that, was too stingy with the inf. I never felt like cruising to victory. But I also never felt mortally threatend in Europe, and with the game progressing you had many spots to cover. Maybe you should have invested more in defending mainland Europe and in the Japanese fleet.

One thing the game proved yet another time is that I lack killer instinct, I tend to play for gradual world dominance, I like long games, but having an eye for closing the deal quickly…not so much.

In the end, the most important thing was likely that I had the good roll when I needed it to prevent the German invasion of London.

I’ve been talking with Larry about this issue, and it’s under review.  We’d be very interested in knowing how changing Sierra Leone to an original UK territory would impact game balance, so any feedback from games played that you fine folks can provide will be appreciated.

If you guys get a chance to test this change, it’d be great to hear from you. I think its pretty exciting because this is the first time in a while that an official change to the Errata/FAQ for 1940 has come under consideration from the designers.

Particularly helpful would be some feedback on how this change impacted your impression of overall balance in the Europe 1940 game, or the Global 1940 game. Did it adjust the way you played, or the need for bid (or reduce the amount of that bid)? Did you see any new opening strategies employed? Was it fun? Etc.

The more test games we can look over the better. So if you’ve been waiting for another chance to take a crack at Europe 1940, or Global 1940, now would be a great time!

I agree with you. In my opinion the most decisive one those two italian fighters vs. british mech and the brit survives. That would definetly made the difference in the game.

I wouldn’t mind a rematch, but don’t know if I’m going to play 20 games this year, if I get close to that record will post you for a rematch.  :wink:
