Actually, I am thinking that with the addition of some 1 inch by 3 inch cards under each ship, you could easily use them for miniature naval battles using any of the wide variety of rule sets out there.  Especially now with the addition of the cruiser.  I am thinking of using some simply naval miniature rules to fight sea actions in the Guadalcanal game.

Not a Vista expert, but I would think you should ensure that Firefox is not opening when you boot your system (in XP you just ran msconfig.exe from the Run menu then went to start up and unchecked the box.)  Then reboot and run the update from there.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR REPLACING CURRENT TRIPLEA ICON:
    Download the ziped icon files. Copy the entire contents of the zipped folder into a new nonzipped folder that you will perminately save on your computer. (if you dont do this you wont be able to use the icons)
    If you have windows you can replace your current icon by right clicking on the triplea icon selecting “properties” under the “Shortcut” tab select “change Icon” then find the icon file you downloaded.   I would recomend selecting the 256x256 icon if you have vista. If you dont have vista you may need to select a smaller resolution.

How did you try to open Triplea saved games? As you may have found out just double clicking the file doesn’t work. Using “open with” won’t work either because Java programs never show up in the list of programs.

To use a Triplea saved game file you need to put the file into the savedGames folder in the Triplea directory then open the saved game from within Triplea. That should work.

As for the firewall issue, if you configure your firewall to allow Triplea to use port 3300 you should be good to go. That’s the default port, however you can choose whatever port you like. But if you do decide to use something other than 3300 you need to change the default in Triplea to match it. ~ZP

Gotcha, I misunderstood.  Thought you meant could the AI win as the axis, you meant would the AI go for a second capitol after the fall of Russia.

Yea, dunno about that.  I know once you take a capitol, all units seem to stop functioning.  Though, I think it will retake Germany if the odds are seriously in it’s favor.

Such buy-routines could surely improve the game play, but even then the AI should not ignore counterattacks on the opponents turn.

It’d be REALLY swell if it would support them. :P  Or at the very least if code was written for TripleA so that it would stop doing stupid stuff like leaving fighters and bombers alone in territories.

Nevermind, I figured it out.

Sounds like the version you are using is still the “hacked” version that was never part of the sourceforge project.  Therefore, nothing is supported in your version, and nothing will ever be fixed in your version.  The unstable version at triplea.sourceforge.net are at least supported by the tripleA development team, so there may still be bugs with them, but at least any bugs will be fixed in future releases.

I’d recommend running (not walking) to triplea.sourceforge.net and downloading the lastest unstable release 0.9.4.1 (since no stable releases yet have support for PBEM).

Convince your opponent to use the same version - it shouldn’t be hard if they were using the same version you had (that you say doesn’t work any more).

This is considered an unstable release, but it is also a release candidate as we have already found/fixed many bugs in the last unstable release.
So… we need AxisAndAllies.org PBF beta testers!
This release contains many fixes and enhancements, including all the PBEM/PBF enhancements that I made available on A&A.org last year such as Turn Summary Posting, and Edit Mode.  Since these are now in the main TripleA stream, they will be maintained from here-on-in provided proper bug reports are filed.
