I was reading about 150 pt games with limits by Dave J. I think my friend and I are going with that.  In some ways it makes it easier, at least with the set up of the Army.  Here’s what I have planned.

PZ IV
Hetzer (I don’t see too many people talking about this unit seems like a decent cost and damage isn’t bad decent )
Stug III (Since I need to make up points for my infantry I skimped a little here 15 instead of the 22 needed for the Brumbar which I have)
Stuka  I like the shock value of the plane ( I do have a sneaking suspition my opponent has a quad 4)

MG 42 (need some decent supression)
SS Fuher (He speaks for himself)
SS Storm Troopers (X2)  (Not bad close up)
Reg Panzer Gren     
Vet Infantry
Kar 98

Am I deluding myself or is this something that stands a chance?

Below is what else I have at my disposal.  It’s funny that I never once got any SS panzer gren’s (And their common !!!)
(I also have a Griz vet, a vet tiger, Mar II, Pak 40, Pz III F,Elite Pz IV, PumaSnipe,4x250,Pz faust,Pz schreck,flak 38,jagpanzerIV)

Yes the Tiger will be unleashed.  Your right though too much risk and I feel it would demoralize my opponent too much.  I have a pak 40 and sfz 250 I’ll use.

I’ve been reading a lot on Mortars any thoughts?  I have a disc. Spotter and a 81 mm what about mg42’s I have a couple of those too.  It just seems a steep price to pay (20pts) for a mortar and support.

Again I was skunked on sspg at my local shop.  Are SS stormtroopers as good?

Terrain doesn’t block LOS to/from an aircraft means only that. It doesn’t allow units to fire without LOS.

This is significant because Smoke Screen is not terrain and does block LOS to aircraft.

We have used a couple rules for dug-out hills that provide +1 cover to all units in that hex from forward attacks (open back defensive position pretty much).  However, I was just reading the ‘official’ boards, and someone suggested ‘camoflage’ as a seperate ‘buy’.

So, pillboxes grant +1 cover to soldiers.  Pillboxes in a cover granting terrain could add an additional +1.  Camoflage (bought at 3 points) can add +1 to cover for all units in ‘that’ hex until they move; they can not be fired at from medium or long range.  I had thought about saying it should be 4 points as it is powerful…  So, here are my final thoughts:

Pillbox: +1 Cover (soldiers only)
Pillbox in a ‘cover’ terrain hex: +2 Cover
Camoflage: 4 points / must be used in a hex granting cover or with a fortification that grants cover / +1 Cover to any unit until it moves / can not be fired at from medium or long range / Can not stack with a pillbox already in cover/ must be used in a hex granting cover or with a fortification that grants cover

Traps:
Like minefields, I believe that some traps should be ‘secretly deployed’.  I also feel that these traps (like mines) should be able to be ‘deployed’ at the end of any player’s movement phase, or the beginning of any player’s assault phase (something I will try in some games this weekend).  So, Tank Traps and Barbed Wire - pay double the cost and use the same rules as a Minefield for deployment.

Another idea is to only keep one of your cards in a binder… keep that one (also still in the sleeve) set organized in card pages.  This way, when you’re building an army for a game, you don’t have to thumb through your ten Shermans.  ;)

And I also use tackle-boxes.  If you’re THAT big of an A&A minis player, you could go out and get a bigger tackle box with multiple trays (and a place on the top to keep your card boxes, tiles, dice-bag, etc.  (about $30-50 at wal-mart)  Another alternative is a big ‘tool box’.  I got a plastic one from Wal Mart (I’m pretty sure… might’ve been a Military Exchange) for $20 on sale and then bought a bunch of trays to put in it (it can hold about eight trays).  Plano would be my suggestion for ‘normal’ tackleboxes (as they’re well priced, are durable… and that’s mostly what I’ve bought for my hobbies).  The backpack is something like a soft-pack that GW makes for Warhammer minis… but it is $100…

I also recently cut my ‘standard’ maps in half and put them in page protectors.  They’re pretty flat now, and aside the extra minute set-up time, I have no qualms with it!  It doesn’t work with the beach promo map (exactly), so I haven’t done that yet; and probably won’t.

Im not entirely sure but here it goes.

You can shoot through a hege as long as the unit you are firing on is right next to the hedge or you yourself are next to the hedge.  Say you are a hex away from a hedge, then you can not fire on an enemy that is on the otherside and neither can the enemy.

Only artillery with the Indirect Fire SA can fire indirectly (assuming the spotter is within 4 hexes and has LOS)

Does this mean that each attack is set up completely seperately?  Is there no way to combine fire against one opponent?

Rules clarification time for me in this made up scenario:

Lets say my opponent has an M26 Pershing tank with armor 7/6 and Superior Armor 2.

I have a Messerschmitt Me 110 w/ an attack on vehicles of 5 at short range and 4 at medium range;
three Mauser Kar 98ks with attacks of 2 at short range and one SS Stormstrooper with an attack of 8 since he is at 0 range;
and one Pak 38 artillery piece with attacks of 11/9/7 respectively.

How can I attack the tank?

Is the plane completely useless?  The best he could do in his phase is 5 sucssess, but that won’t do anything on it’s own.  Are the three Kar 98ks inefective as well, since they could individually only have 2 sucssess?  Even the Stormtrooper at his best could only disrupt the tank with 7 or 8 sucssess.  And the Pak 38 would have to have a tremendous shot even at close range just to touch the Pershing.

Is this correct?

I dont know about that.  Id just play with the minis that are sold by the great Avalon Hill in AAM.  :-D

LOL  Thanks for the help!  I’ll be honest… if gun stays hard for more than two hours I am not calling dr or avalon hill until after I talk to my wife!

As for the medics in AAM, a friend was a field medic for a LRRP unit… he found out how useless they were when he broke his own leg!  Give me a Higgins Boat in Africa… or on the standard play map before a medic any day!

Well it also depends what country you are wanting to collect.

If collecting:

USSR: Buy either a set II or a set III.  Set I has 2 good soviet tanks but thats about it.  Id recommend you just buy those online or trade.

UK:  Buy either set I or set IV.  Lots of goodies for the UK in those.  There are 2 good rares in set II but I just recommend you to buyem online or trade.

Japan:  Set I and set II is the way to go for Japan.  Set IV only has the Honor Bound hero.  Buy that one online, im sure hes only like 75 cents.  :wink:

Germany and US:  Just buy any freakin set!!  They all have lots of good German and American units.  :-D

If you are looking to collect whole sets like my friend Sol….then just buy a whole case of any set.  Simple as that.  :-P
